My wife and I are looking to get some Crabs (the kind you eat) and wondering where to go and how much it is going to cost me.

Someone told me that in Martinsburg off 81 is a great place but I have no idea where they were talking about.

Would be nice if someone had a Chicken, corn, crabs, fries, hush puppies, cole slaw special for about $25.00. I guess I am thinking I am in OC.

I had intended to go to Gateway last Thursday for AYCE, but decided I wasn't in the mood to pick crabs and wouldn't get my money's worth. My wife checked on their prices; it was $40 a person and all that included was fries. They only have the AYCE Sun. - Thurs.

Was just there Friday evening, AYCE crabs $40 a person. Might have been 20 people in the whole place (inside & out) and 12 was in our party. Crabs were decent size and rather meaty, Worth the $40 though
SMan
Crud. I may have actually went Friday night, but they told us it was only a Sun - Thur thing. Oh, well. Today starts a new week of crab eating possiblities. biggrin.gif

Probably a little seafood store called Season's Best. It's off Moler Ave. across from 7/11.

Edit: moler/molar

I usually go to Chics because they are the cheapest. I just dont like their seasoning-it isnt old bay. I was down at the ocean a few weeks ago and I was salivating over the cheap prices down there, I cant believe I held off on buying any. By the way- the water was brrrrr very cold down there lol.
SMan
Flipper's mention about their seasoning is why we don't go to Chic's much. The wife doesn't like it as much as Old Bay.

We did the AYCE at last night at Gateway. It wasn't the best crabs I've ever had, but it scratched our crabs itch well enough for the money. I did Liberty Seafood (just north of Frederick...VERY good, but pricey) back in May and Gateway last night. I should only require crabs one more time this summer to be satisfied. cool.gif

Oddly, most AYCE crab places I've been to try to shove the less expensive, non-crab stuff (in this case, fries) on you right away so you fill up on other stuff. Last night, it took me over an hour to get a basket of fries, all the while they were shoving piles of hot crabs at me. I'm not complaining, it's just that after awhile, I was in the mood for a little something else.
Flipper
Yeah thats the same with all buffets trying to put as much starchy stuff out as possible to fill you up. I may be going down to tour around Calvert County next week. I will see how cheap they are there. Hey I wonder, do they still have that place called Jug Bridge east of Frederick? I went a long time ago as a teen but I rememeber it well, I never felt as full in my life after going there.

That's the only place I go to eat crabs. Seafood isn't seafood without the Old Bay Seasoning. smile.gif

The best deals in eating crabs is to go down a little further to the real maryland and buy them live and do them yourself.
jelsey
Actually, the BEST deal is to go down to the bay and CATCH them yourself, then PREPARE them yourself, and then, best of all....

EAT THEM YOURSELF!!! (might have to share with the significant other and friends, but HEY! that's what friends are for!)
Flipper
Ill agree with that one bigtime too and i may just tie some ol' chicken necks on and catch sum a' 'dem lil boogers. Damn weird azz Pennsylvanians get out of your trance.

Now that's a good ideal. Let's go. I haven't been down to the bay, since I was married the first time around, yea that was many moons ago. When we going? My bags are pack and ready to go. Come on what you waiting for. Let's go. laugh.gif
Flipper
Oh and uh Miss Jelsey whereabouts in general do you really go down there to go crabbing anyway? I go to either Kent Co or a lil south of Annapolis at a town called Deale but I may try out around Calvert soon.
jelsey
Only been a few times, I think it's called Chrisfield, or Christfield, can't remember which.
Flipper
ok thats crisfield way down in somerset co on the eastern shore, i used to wanna go there but it became too fished out due to its reputation of being a hotbed.

What's the going price for a bushel of crabs these days?
Reason being is my sister and I usually go half on a bushel.
Looking for the cheapest price I can get, but they must be good also.

Anyone know and what location?
Flipper
Ive seen them generally for $125
sweetliberty2u
Hope I fine a place cheaper then that. I guess if you split it down the middle, it isn't to bad.
I'll have to check around a little more, hopefully I can get a better price.
jelsey
This past Monday, Jubilee in Emmitsburg has a bushel of #2's for $79.00 (I thought of you when I saw the price and jotted it down). biggrin.gif
sweetliberty2u
Thanks for the infor Jesley, I'll be sure to tell my sister about it. I want to get some before the summer is out. That's the best price I seen so far. Have you ever gotten any from them? Wonder if they have hush puppies, I love them things.
jelsey
Nope, didn't try them, but they looked good (frozen!)

I usually limit my crab eating to vacation time (Captain George $30 AYCE), or the occassional over-cooked crab at the local Chinese restaurant.

But if you're looking for someone to help you dispose of some succulent, buttery crabs, just call!

What you mean they look good frozen. I want fresh steam crabs.
Oh darn, now I done made myself hungry. laugh.gif
jelsey
I didn't see any fresh crabs, I think they keep them "in the back", but the frozen ones in the case looked healthy, well, I mean healthy before they were dead.

I think that's usually where they put live crabs at. You don't want the out front crawling around, do you? Actually they just put crabs on ice. I believe that puts them to sleep, until the thaw out. Before the hit the hot pot of water. Oh my, not good.
jelsey
First (and only) time we prepared crabs at the house (and not at the beach), the kids were younger and we let the crabs crawl around on the floor, sooooooo funny watching the little ones try to scamper away (the kids, not the crabs).

One of my "blond moments" in high school was when I asked the science teacher what killed the crabs, the HOT water or the brain damage they incur, got a BIG laugh, but no answer. I'm soooo dumb sometimes.

Hey Yoss, - you know everything, which kills the crab first, the brain damage, or the boiling water?
wildblue
I had some excellent steamed crabs at the Stadium last night. They were $40 a dozen and pretty heavy too. Not the cheapest meal in town, but soooo good!
sweetliberty2u
Well since my both sisters live away from me. It's like a gathering/party event with us. We only do this once a year. Give us a bushel of crabs, case of beer, good music and were good to go. Don't forget the hush puppies, I love them things.

WildBlue, When you said Stadium, you mean over there at the ball field? I been in Hagerstown for close to 3 years,
I still don't know about Hagerstown. Thank You
Flipper
Good God Ill never pay 40 for crabs even the big ones. I can get the big ones for 25 if i wanted.

Hi sweetliberty. Yep, over by the baseball stadium. http://www.stadiumgrillandtavern.com/crabs.htm
I think they have crabs every day but Monday and Tuesday. I don't think they have hush puppies, though.
sweetliberty2u
Oh okay WildBlue, yea I know the place your talking about now. That's where my sisters and I got them from, when I first moved here 3 years ago. They sure was good. But I can't remember how much we paid for a bushel. Yea, I don't think they have the hush puppies either. I'll have to call them up and see how much there charging this year.

Sorry I suffer from CRS, can't remember shht.

Thanks
jelsey
"CRS" laugh.gif laugh.gif

I also suffer from PMS (putting up w/men's shTT)

J.
sweetliberty2u
That was funny laugh.gif laugh.gif

Liberty lets take the kids crabbing some weekend it would be a good educational experience for them and then we can steam our own from scratch.
sweetliberty2u
Thanks but No Thanks

Actually a good friend of mine name Joe, that lives in Frederick, were actually been thinking about going to the bay.
I really like Joe, Being his mother had a stroke a few years back and really can't do for herself. He takes care of his elderly mother after works. And the brother takes care of her during the day. So he don't get much time to do other things. I have the up most respect for him. Some children would just stick their mother in a nursing home.

My kids really like him.
jelsey
Sounds like your kids' mom may really like him too. laugh.gif

If you can't have fun, then what's the sense of living.
Think I'll plan it out in August, which isn't to far away.

Jesley, yes you can say I like this person very much. smile.gif
