Hey I am going down to check out Great Falls on the Potomac this weekend. One of the very few places around here ive never been, Im running out of places soon. Then after I check that out awhile I am going up to the Monocacy Aqueduct to fish. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect from both places? I fished at the aqueduct before but its been about 10 yrs since. Greedy or anyone?

Well I ended up going down to the Potomac Saturday. First i took a side trip to Sugarloaf Mtn and it wasnt too bad although I had to rest quite a bit from walking up there, it took me a good while to make it. after that I took the back way down thru the old land of samy0. Went down 28 thru Potomac, MD- Id rather never see that place ever again, you talk about money, that place is ridiculous with the humongous houses and the 100k cars they have. Otherwise, Great Falls was awesome. I walked out a promenade type boardwalk trail onto Olmsted Island and encountered a fantastic view of the falls, I was very impressed. Left there, got something to eat in Poolesville at some italian hole named Cugini's- not all that great. then I got to Dickerson where I attempted to catch some fish in both the Monocacy and Potomac. That was kind of a bad idea due to the water level. I tell ya, in all my life I have never seen it that low. I could have walked across both rivers and it may not even have come up to my waist. I got about 3 half decent bites but it was just nearly senseless to fish. so I ended up coming up the back way thru Buckeystown and headed back to dreaded ol' Waynes'bur or Waynes'bar as those locals call it. You people really should see how beautiful Great Falls is though. The only other bad thing about it was the number of people yet again. Damn is there any place I can go without encountering so many doofus suburbanites anymore. Im serious I cant go anywhere without it having to be a crowd of clueless buffoons around. why are places so crowded anyway? Is it just that there is that much more people in the world or do they do less constructive things and more leisure things?
christine_dixon
you should try like, Dam 4, dam 5, macmahon's mill, or molly's hole.... those are all AWESOME fishing spots and never very crowded...

My best fishing hole is below dam 5 at the little island on the bank though. Dam 4 has way too many snakes, I start shaking and almost fall in the water when I used to see them there. Im not familiar where Mollys Hole is. Thank you.

Molly's Hole is between sharpsburg and keedysville.... its on antietam creek. VERY nice, absolutely beautiful... it's right below the little dam ( you can tube/canoe over it if you're in the water smile.gif ) ... about 75 yards BEFORE burnside bridge...

molly's hole again:

Hey Flip, WaynesBUGGY has a pretty nice little fishin' hole right in your own back yard. Head up 16 towards Rouzerville, turn left at AC&T, it's Old Forge Road. Go about 7-8 miles, deep into Michaux Forest, the "resevoir" is on your right. Follow the dirt road around until you get to the parking area. Park, LOCK YOUR CAR, and hike down to the water (easy 5 minute walk, even for your poor old back).

Great fishin', not TOO many snakes (ok, maybe a couple of rattlers and a copper or two).

I guarantee you that you won't see a single yuppie. But watch out for the good ole' boys and don't be dissin Waynesboro or you may find yourself as someone else's bait.

I figured youd have to try to spark something up out of me. I dont dont have PA license only MD so I doubt I go up there. I used to go fishing probably near you at Cools Pond. I caught some humongous catfish up there in the upper pond this yr and last. They came all the way up to my waist from the ground.
jelsey
License, smicense.

Spark something out of you?

I'm lost.

Anyhow, just a suggestion. Your loss.
