Let's get it started.

The two-games-too-long NFL preseason is underway. It was only the first game so I'll limit myself to one comment.

Romo looked sharp. w00t!

Ok, two comments. Romo isn't the holder this year. w00t! w00t! biggrin.gif

i'm a diehard steelers fan... and i'm liking what i see this year...

btw, what was the deal with the guy throwing the roach on romo?
Flipper
I am going to Westminster tomorrow to Ravens camp! I hope I can get to meet Chris McAlister. I met Ray last year. him, McNair and the coach. I think we will lose our first game but then go on a roll and win at least the next 6 in a row.

Maybe Romo will be handing off to Carrie this season, thats good for some wins, the defenses will definitely tackle her but I doubt they get up off her. Im sorry man but the Cowboys and Steelers are my 2 worst teams.

I think this the year finally for the Purple Bowl Raves-Vikes! HaHa I say that every year. The only team im really worried much about is the Patriots and maybe the Bengals as far as us losing., Im so tired of them though-patriots.

Taht mascot looks like Mr Big Beard dont he Sman? lmmfao
SMan
You better get moving, flip. Don't the teams break camp this week?

c_d - I'm going to the football Hall of Fame later this month. Not a Steelers fan, but apparently they have all of the Steelers SB trophies on display up there this month in honor of the team's 75th anniversary. What's up with their ridiculous, new mascot? They made it 75 years without one, but now feel the need to add one?

its "steely mcbeam" ... he's supposed to look like bill cowher. >.< laaaaaaame. <3
Flipper
Hey I kind of like that new mascot lol. Well I am supposed to go down there with a girl I know tomorrow while I am getting rear brakes put on my car so I should be there. I oughta see if big Chris has any drugs to give me for my pain down there. I cant stand the Redskins either. I tell ya tho- one team to watch out for is San Fran I sure hope I can get Vernon Davis in fantasy football, he is gonna have an awesome year.

Barf on the name. Barf on the likeness. biggrin.gif

If Wade Phillips doesn't work out with the Cowboys this year, I think Jerry Jones is going to take a run at Cowher next year when he is available again.
christine_dixon
my husband likes the vikings, and i must say, they don't look too bad this year...( not as good as my 'burghies though!) we are fortunate enough to have nfl network, so we have some sort of football on 24/7 and have been able to see alot of the camps.... its gonna be a good season, boys! i cant believe the patriots got randy moss! granted, he wasn't so hot for the raiders, but when he was with the vikings, he and culpepper dominated...
coma
Wow, that mascot is teh suck!

I have the NFL Network too. Tons and tons of coverage.
momsapilot
I'm disappointed, Mike Alstott is out for the season sad.gif . Mike is my boy, has been ever since I went to Purdue with him. Back then, he was the only player of note on the team.

Steely McBeam reminds me way too much of Purdue Pete and his dorky lame (but fun) sidekick, Rowdy.

Cant wait to get things going tonight! Im interested in the 3rd string QB battle. Troy Smith vs Drew Olson-UCLA. Olson is still listed 3rd on depth chart but Troy has a slight edge in performance and of course his Heisman. I mainly like seeing the new players in preseason. I got to meet Marshal Yanda the 3rd rounder, he looks like a young farmboy which he is from Iowa. Yamon Figurs-Kansas St. 2nd round pick looked real good too. That Jared Gaither guy we got from Maryland is humongous in person. The other new guy who has been very impressive has been Prescott Burgess from Michigan. Watch out for Antwan Barnes-Florida Int'l too. He is gonna be a good replacement for Adalius Thomas one day but I will miss AD.

Ravens looking darn great so far hahahaha steelers.

Whipped them pretty good didnt they?
Flipper
Hey forum members Id like to see what your early picks for the Super Bowl are this year and what are some of your surprise teams? I say the Ravens vs. New Orleans and surprise team is San Fran.
SMan
The Cowboys' starters looked, I mean sounded (had to listen on sat radio), solid tonight against the Denver first team with three TDs.

I'm so desperate to watch football, I'm typing this while watching a Redskins/Steelers game with the two teams' 5th stringers battling it out in the fourth quarter. tongue.gif
SMan
  • Cowboys got owned yet again by the Texans
  • The Redskins' D looks stout. The offense, not so much.
  • Is every freakin' Steelers game on national tv? blink.gif
  • The Raiders wasted their 1st overall pick on Jamarcus Russell.
  • Patriots look good, as usual.
  • The Saints offense looks unstoppable.
SMan
Everybody's trendy NFC Super Bowl pick shouldn't get beat down like that.
Snoopy
I was shocked to see last night's HM paper and not see any mention of the Buffalo Bills player fighting for his life after a spinal injury suffered on the field Sunday. There was zero coverage, even in the Bill's game summary section. Some sports "coverage" that was, Herald-Mail.
Idiot
I read today that Everett has some movement, that's great news.

I wasn't thrilled when the Cowboys hired Wade Phillips but after watching several of his news conferences I like him a lot.
SMan
Everett played for the college team I follow, so I kinda knew who he was before this. This gave me a little extra pause when I first heard about it. I hope he walks again.

I heard on the radio this morning that they used some experimental treatment on him that involved injecting ice cold saline solution into his body to "slow things down" and prevent further damage. Science is amazing.

As for the Cowboys, it's been a long, long time since one of my teams has had that kind of offensive firepower and used it so seemingly effortlessly. The defensive, on the other hand, was offensive. In the last year, Roy Williams went from being a feared, respected, big hitter to being exposed as a laughing stock and possibly one of the worst cover safeties in the league. Where was the pass rush?!
Idiot

One of the worst safeties in the league?????? You're kidding me, right?

You're right about the offense though, they're clicking. That offensive line is awesome. If they stay healthy the 'Boys are gonna win a lotta games. I love the way Phillips is using Jones and Barber. Parcells used Barber a lot on 3rd downs and short yardage. Phillips seems to give them each 2 consecutive series. I like that better, they each get an extended shot at moving the team. It seems to be working.
SMan
Re-read, Id. Worst cover safety. Meaning he can't cover worth a damn. Look at this year's Giants game. Look at the last half dozen games last season where the D gave up too many huge plays to count. He can still come up and make plays at the line of scrimmage, but I seriously think he's dropped from being an elite safety in the league. And I think you'd be hard pressed to find an NFL talking head (that isn't a Dallas homer) that wouldn't agree with.
Idiot

Sorry, I missed the cover part. But as far as I'm concerned the talking heads don't know sh!t. Four consecutive pro bowls... consistently leads the team in interceptions... and he gets them at crucial times... doesn't miss many tackles... disguises the blitz well... tackles well... there aren't more than a handful in the league that are better IMO, but what do I know?

He's probably gonna play even more up on the line with Phillips' style 3-4.

But why are we arguing? We're 2 and 0. Go Cowboys!

Phillips even said he would over the off season. The new free safety, whose name escapes me, was signed to sure up the cover requirements at safety.

Sunday at the Bears is a huge early season game. It should establish the head of the pack in the NFC. Too bad the best in the NFC is still only about the fourth best in the NFL.
Biggins
Another long season for the Dolphins sad.gif

Redskins are primed for another 8-8/9-7 season which will sadly get them easily into the playoffs.

Side note: Did anyone watch the Third Quarter of MNF Redskins vs. Eagles? How terrible was Charles Barkley? I cannot believe they let him stay in the booth for the entire Third Quarter!!! You could see Jaws cringing every time Barkley tried to analyze the game.

Hamlin, got him from the seahawks, had a big interception Sun.

Hey, we beat Peyton last year, held him to 14 points, his low for the year, (and if I'm not mistaken RW had in interception)... and the Patriots are CHEATERS, so the NFC hasn't reached ugly step-child status yet.

Didn't see it but I like Barkley. Jaws cringes every time Kornheiser opens his mouth too but I think he's great.

Da Boys!

Actually, I've felt like the Bears have been over-rated the last couple years. Right now I think the entire NFC East is better. I'm looking forward to some great games against the Redskins and Eagles.
Mcgee
I think they should do away with the booth goofs all together. All they do is talk to each other. Just call the plays and shut up. Foot ball is a fixed game. Look at the hit called on the Cardinals. Head shot my ass. That was a good hit. Baltimore Thugs. they suck. (I`m not a fan of any team)
SMan
Do tell how NFL games are fixed. I love a good conspiracy! If the only basis for this opinion is bad officiating, every pro sport (edit - college, too (edit edit - pee wee/Little Leagues, too)) must be fixed. rolleyes.gif
Idiot
Wow, talk about an ass whuppin. It was almost like the Patriots had had the Cowboys' defensive signals or something... rolleyes.gif

bwahah!

my boys had a bye week, so i was a Vikings fan this week. (husband's team)

(forgot to update my fantasy team... 1/2 my players had a bye... i have 20 pts. samyo is whooping me. lol)

was impressed with Brady.

too bad washington (much as i dislike them) couldn't beat the freakin' cheeseheads.
Biggins
I don't want to talk NFL anymore... my team traded away their biggest offensive threat for nothing, has the Pats this week, and then they're playing in London because no one will show up the rest of the season for their own home games.

w00t steelers. maybe ol' rothlisberger isnt such a piece of junk afterall.

what happened to Indy!? (yesterday looked to be a red letter day for BOTH mannings. ) seriously though. SD got womped last week by Minnesota and then turns around and beats Indy?? musta been one hell of a pep talk.... dude doing a back flip was pretty cool too. i'm surprised they didnt toss the beanbag at him for unsportsmanlike or excessive celebration. bwhahahaha.

as far as minnesota goes... that was a sad showing against favre and crew.

How about the Ravens and Redskins? You have to hand it to both teams. It's got to be hard to be this bad for this long.

Do us a favor and don't beat New England. Those sad, old men from the '72 Fins that get together every year to sip champagne when the last undefeated team loses really get under my skin. Seriously, show some dignity for holding the last great team record in pro sports.
Idiot
If it was anybody but belichik I'd agree.

Belichek certainly seems like a jerk, but I can't picture him giving tv interviews 30 years from now (if they go undefeated) bashing whatever team is threatening his record. Shula needs to zip it.

Redskins Taylor shot in leg.

This is one that goes against your statistics Snoopy, his fondness for guns didn't appear to make him safer.

Or maybe they thought he wasn't home. They knew he loved guns and probably owns a bunch. Maybe they thought they could steal his guns.

Also, I don't think he was shot in the leg. They are reporting that he is in critical condition and that he was shot in the "lower extremities". One of the Redskins officials stated that it was "not good".

I get the impression that this is a lot more serious then being shot in the leg.
SMan
A femoral artery hit would be a very significant "lower extremity" injury.
