The wife and I have a recurring conversation where we review things that we grew up with and took for granted and then marvel that today yoots never experienced any of it (an example being leaded gasoline).
Here is a list from Beloit College that illustrates this perfectly. It also make me want to go coffin shopping

they've always had tamper-proof packaging on foods and medicines
they've never seen the test pattern when a tv channel goes off the air
they've never gone to the library and rooted through the card catalog (the physical card catalog with drawers) for their school reports
anybody know who has the best coffin prices in H-town? does Wal-mart carry them yet?

I was umpiring a LL baseball game and a guy walked up to me and said. Hey see the kid on 2nd base? I said yes. That`s my son. OH ok. After 38 years of umpiring I felt old out on that field. you see I umpired that guy also when he was 12yrs old.

But I don't consired myself old because of it. Maybe when I hit 70's I might.

Talking about how much things have changed over a short period of time.....
I picked up the book,
Bourne Supremacy, to read before I see the movie. And, it's so funny, because the spys in the book don't have cell phones, so they get away with alot of stuff that could never happen today. This book was written in the 70's, I believe.
One part, Bourne had to find coins to make a call from a phone booth!! Ancient!!

We actually talked about this in class last night. I'm one of the oldest in my class, mind you, at 30 years old. You should have heard the dumb stuff those kids were saying.
"Did they have credit cards in the 80's?" And the giggles when we talked about winding down a car window instead of pushing a button.
And yeah, Wrangler, we had VHS, but I was always pissed because the videos I wanted to see were always in beta while the VHS copies were always out.

200 copies of Hello Mary Lou Prom Night II in beta and one on VHS which is always OUT, DAD, why can't we get beta?

Humm... this brought back a lot of memories for me... Anyone remember the gas shortage where you were assigned even & odd days & had to wait forever just to get an allotted amount of gas on your assigned day??? Or when you were having leftovers for dinner you actually warmed up the food in a pan or pot on the stove??? Microwave? What was that?!?!? Or the old rotary dial phones & you only had to dial the last digit of the now three digit number & then the last four? There was no cable, no remote, no electronic hand held games - for entertainment, kids would play board games, or outside activities with all the other neighborhood kids or (gasp) read! No MP3 players, iPods - just 45s (& 8-track when that came out). I remember when the first walkmans came out - I was in middle school & just *had* to have one! It played only cassette tapes and was huge to lug around with big, bulky headphones!

Bowling lanes at Two Guys? I don't remember that.
Heck, Burger Chef was the only fast food place in town. One on VA Ave (no Halfway Blvd back then) and one up at Penna Ave and Burhans (near the Miracle Mart, later Kings, or vice versa). Then they built the first Mickey D's on Northern Ave, Big Mac, Large Fry and medium Coke for 90 cents.

OK, I’ll be 31 in July, (yeah I know to some not old enough) but anyway I remember a lot of stuff that you guys have already mentioned like; our first VCR, huge-@$$ camcorder, Atari and pong, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, our first computer was a Mac, huge thing with like a ridiculously small 8” x 8” screen and a dot matrix printer. I also remember:
When CVS was People’s and they had the lunch counters
The progression of Two Guys, to Nichol’s and now Big Lots and whatever else is there now
When South High’s band used to ‘practice’ march up and down Spruce Street
The upstairs and the pet store at the mall
Jim’s Always, Richardson’s and the Venice were the places to eat on the Dual
Visiting my great-grandparents house and property before they built the McDonald’s on Sharpsburg Pike
Life before and the long phased construction of Eastern Blvd.
Life before and the construction of the overpass at Wilson Blvd and Virginia Ave
The old ‘D’ building and the auto shop at South.
The DMV on Franklin Street
When they actually had a Fair at the Fairgrounds.
Rocky Ridge farm market
Don’t even get me started on all the rolling fields before the developers came along.
That’s enough for now, I’m sure I’ll think of more

The progression was Two Guys, Nichol's, Pharmhouse, Michelle's ? I think? and then Big Lots took over. I mean, if you're talking about the Maryland Avenue location.
My first job ever was cashier at Pharmhouse when i was a junior in high school. The first time I ever spoke up for myself in employment terms was asking to be promoted to, "PharmBeauty."

A quarter more per hour and I loved it. I met my first and only true love.

I was so proud of my department. I built the cosmetic displays that everyone trashed. I cleaned shelves every week. Our makeup department had amazing deals on makeup. I actually paid attention to the dates of the sales and thought I was true to company policy, but the managers always shit on the deadlines. I knew bitches were stealing shit all the time and they didn't care.

I wanted to be militant about my designated area!
