In relation to the growth of downtown businesses, new restaurants, (new night club opening soon), and renovated office, residential, condos, and cafe growth downtown, I'm writing in concerning the people who say that nothing is going on downtown hagerstown. Whether they like it or not, (and believe me, I was no realy fan of downtown hagerstown), things are really happening. For instance, people say the maryland theater is for old people to attend boring events. Well, let me tell you something, they don't have all the facts. When the Maryland Symphony Orchestra performs at the MD theater downtown, it has 600-700 people in attendance. No lie. Call the MSO yoursleef to get proof. Another thing, people complain about the drinking downtown, the bands that Demcore brings for its big Downtown Live events, and they are still not happy. Let me reminf people there is the mixture of music and entertainment downtown so that it brings a diversity. If only a certain band played or type of music at the maryland theater it would be boring. However, I recently went to a Maryland symphony orchestra concert at the MD theater downtown, and it was awsome! I can't wait for the orchestra to perform Spetmeber 22, thats when they do the music from movies like star wars, etc. With all the construction of new homes, and establsihments in in Hagerstown area istelf, no wonder developers are going to the core of the city. Hagerstown and the surrounding area is becoming overpopulated.
One more point, these places do advertise, I've read a post on a forum before that said the Maryland theater doesn't advertise. I just sae a commercial on NBC 25, Hagerstown Magazine, Herald Mail for upcoming music performamces at the theater and new gallery's and science events at the Discoverey Station on East Washington street. So to say that people don't attend anything downtown or its "dead" is almost laughable. If people continue to put downtown hagerstown down, they need to move away, and let the new generation move in, (as if they already haven't).
p.s. Also, please don't get the idea that I think downtown is perfect, I don't there can be some changes and improvemnts, butthats what the several developers in downtown right now are doing, so support them instead of mocking them and putting them down for goodness sake.
