Man seeks liquor license for theater
Montgomery County resident Mark Brody approached the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County on Wednesday to ask them the requirements for opening a cinema that serves alcohol at 27-31 N. Conococheague St. in Williamsport.
Brody said he is buying the building, which features a clock tower, and thinks Williamsport could be "a little Georgetown" with the right direction.
The commissioners told Brody that he would have to file an application and meet other requirements, like finding a resident agent, to receive a license.

I live in Williamsport (town limits, not right in the downtown) and this is the first I've heard about this. It's an exciting idea and one that I think might work. There is some pretty interesting architecture in tiny downtown Williamsport, buildings which have deteriorated over the decades, but still have great potential for renovation. Having a destination-type business as an anchor in that block would hopefully attract other businesses nearby...I could envision Williamsport as Sheperdstown only without the college.
Does anybody this this would be economically viable for the cinema owner? Would a theatre geared towards grownups be a good thing (no obnoxious teens talking on their phones and kicking the back of your seat), or be a bad thing (drunken adults talking too loud)? There are cinema and draft houses in more metropolitan areas, and from what I've heard they are successful. From how far away would moviegoers travel...Martinsburg, Hagerstown, Frederick? What about parking?
I say bring it on -- I'd love me a glass o'wine with a movie (as I'm sure HEATHER would too)
