I am expecting a grand daughter in two months and the parents are having a hard time deciding on a girl's name.

Thought I'd get some ideas to present to mom and dad.

Must be something unique (ok, shut up, Patton!! laugh.gif ). They don't want, you know, Brittany, Ashley, Katie etc.

So I give up! After awhile, even the strangest names start to sound nice. So, help!

I'll let you know in November if we have a winner!! smile.gif

Oh, the middle name is definetly, Grace.

Thanks!!
SMan
Good luck with this one, checks. Picking baby names can be quite a chore.

I'm a fan of the more common names, so I'm not going to be much help to you. Therefore, I'll make an obligatory Seinfeld reference and suggest that you name her Seven. laugh.gif

Here's a link to the 1000 most common female names in this country. Grace is number 114, so it's not that uncommon.

edit - playing with that link shows me that my first name almost cracked the top ten for males and my wife's was in the latter part of the top 100.

I jotted down some girl names I liked, along with names that friends have enjoyed.

biggrin.gif Alice, Dorothy, Elise, Alina, Sofie, Rory, Caela or Kayla, Keira or Kyra, Devin, Tara

Good luck, I know you will enjoy and treasure your grand daughter.

For some reason, I like names that double as places... like Arizona or Jersey.

Have you thought of the gems Checks?

Emerald Grace
Amber Grace
Opal Grace
Ruby Grace
Crystal Grace

or the classics

Catherine Grace
Elizabeth Grace
Adrianna Grace
Alexandra Grace
Isabella Grace

When is she due? November?

Autumn Grace
November Grace

All of those names would sound good with your last name. biggrin.gif

or you could get silly but why do that to a kid?

Gidget Grace
Dagmar Grace
Contessa Grace
laugh.gif

I was partial to Vanessa and Theresa, so I put them together : Vatressa ( va- tree- sa)
If it gets too hard, let the parents put some of their favorites in a bag or something and then pick one out.

I always liked the name Taylor...

or Madison

then there's the urban names like Sheenieka, Daniesha....

We also brainstormed a name for our daughter. Went online, sat in Borders and read through all the baby name books, asked friends etc...But when I came down to it a name we did'nt see yet just popped into my head and we both absolutely loved it. Borders does have a lot of books so maybe they can just take an hour or 2 and sit down there and skim through them.

I really like all of this block of names.

My daughters name is, Leigh Ann Marie. It`s a good old and new kinda name.

Try using great or great great grand parents names. Using middle names first.

My favorite is Leah (lee uh, not lay uh) and I really like Leigh or Lilly. I was kinda hoping for an "L" name since that's what my first name begins with!! No go, so far!

You all are great! I'll show them the top 1000 names, SMan. If they can't decide on something from that list, well..... they're in for trouble!! They have both come up with alot of pretty names, but neither likes what the other has. Then you put two sets of parents giving suggestions and, well, you know, gets complicated.

My son wanted to name her Nevaeh. (heaven backwards, pronounced nuh vay' uh). Some rock star (??) or singer named his daughter that, but nobody else likes it. I thought it sounded like an old woman's name!! haha.

But, I told them both to just pick the name they both like and don't tell us (the grandparents) until the baby is born. That way it is Their name. The baby is due November 11. Two more months. I have been going to yard sales, since we gave away all the grandson's stuff (except the high chair). So, I'm am gonna be broke. Baby girl stuff is just all over the place cute!! sigh. smile.gif

And Dragon, you're right! Those names do go with our last name. That can be a problem ,too, since it starts with a vowel and names run together.

Keep them coming!

P. S. Sweets, do you know if your daughter is having a boy or girl yet??

That's a good idea, McGee. I'll research those names too. Not sure of great grandparents middle names.
First names weren't so great. Dorothy, Sadie (which I like, but son doesn't like) Julia, and Helen. I think Catherine was a great grandmother's name (hubby and I both love KATE but the kids say they know too many Kates. I said, we could call her "Katy-did" for a nick name! ha! That was met with blank stares! hee hee )

But, I'll work on this angle. Should be fun and keep me busy.

Ilike Savannah, but she would probably be called Vanna and well, we can't have that !!!
Yossarian
Be careful when choosing names also... look at the initials... you don't want the initials spelling something nasty.
Checkingin
Hmmmmm, Yoss, I'm curious as to what you have in mind. I know you know my last name, so what nasty initials are you seeing?? smile.gif Would those initials have anything to do with your former job, maybe??
wink.gif biggrin.gif
Yossarian
No, actually I don't know your last name. Do I?

Actually I was just saying about initials because a friend of mine had initials A S S, and that's what he was called! lol

What did you name your daughter, Dirk??
Kid
My wife and I recently wen through this same process and we each took a letter a day and thought of names beginning with that letter that each of us liked. Then each day we would review each others list and veto names from each other. At the end we had about 20 names to choose from. From there we started putting them together as first and middle name combos until we found a few combos we liked. My first choice was Addison Paige, but my wife's sister had a little girl a week before we had ours, and named her Madison, which we knew beforehand so Addison was out. We ended up choosing Greenley Paige. So I would throw out Addison Grace for my two cents.

Greenley was a good fit given that neither myself, nor my wife have common names...well mines common...for girls anyway.
christine_dixon
well, my daughter's name is lorilai, (lori for short) but i also liked the name marcie... marcie grace is cute... and i've always wanted a little girl named zepplin, but i'm just wierd. lol.
Unbelieveable
I have always liked:

Emma Catharine
Carley
Lexie
Zoey

Emma Catharine was what i was going to name my Child if it was a Girl.
Heather
I like simple names like Elle and Jane, but if it's different you're looking for:

I know someone that named their child Stasia. I always thought Micah was weird but other people tell me it's pretty normal. Somebody on the radio the other day was named Raina or Rayna. I don't know how to spell it. How about Maddox, as in Maddox Jolie-Pitt? biggrin.gif Twila, Kizzy, Kimma? Mayte?

Good luck. smile.gif
Heather
I just realized that Elle and Jane are both fashion magazines. rolleyes.gif

For some reason I read this as "Twizzler." blink.gif

She could go to the movies with her brothers Milk Dud and Sno Cap.

wildblue
Aw, I like Delia. I considered that for my little girl. She's an Eliza. I like the old-fashioned names.

Lilliana, Alexis, Callie, Hope, Maggie or Magdelena, Brianna or whats wrong with naming her after you? that would be a nice little tribute wink.gif
