Amazing. I'd think such events would have clear go/no go rules regarding heat and humidity and when to call the thing off. And I'd think the runners would know when to quit. I guess I'd be wrong...

Marathon runners are a strange breed of athletes... they don't stop an event because it is hot, cold, or any other kind of weather...
However, you also find a lot of people who enter these events not properly trained or conditioned just to see if they can do it...
I am not saying that the person who died or those who were hospitalized were in that category...
HOWEVER, all trained marathon runners know the importance of being well hydrated and pacing themselves depending on the weather conditions...
Generally, these events have water stations where the runners pick up a drink as they run...
IF a runner does not drink and becomes dehydrated they run the risk of serious body shut down... and I think that is what will be proved on in these cases.

Strange Breed indeed, But their not invincilbe.
Could be either a heat stroke or heart attack too. never know.
With the temps the way they was, don't think it help breathing in
all that hot air either.
The person in charge should of cancel the event.
