Any of our H-M posters venture out today to hit the stores?

Not me. I'm working. And, I don't think I'd hit the stores on Friday even if I could.

All year long, the missus and I had agreed that we weren't
going to buy each other anything for Christmas....now she
tells me that she intends to get me some things which means
I have to go shopping for her....ARGH !!!

Not today, though...probably late some evening during the
next few weeks....

We'll go to Tyson's one day this month, but we won't go today. Then usually my wife goes with her friends to NYC to shop for a weekend.

I am not a shopper by nature...I probably wouldn't even venture to Sheetz today! LOL

I don't even want to see what the Wal-Mart parking lot looks like.

One year( i don't know WHAT i was thinking blink.gif ) I did the Mall thing on Black Friday for my mom cuz there were some good deals on things she wanted to give to people.NEVER AGAIN!!!!! ohmy.gif It was a madhouse!!!Lines every where you looked, rude shoppers, those screaming kids(!!!!! who were they bying for?not the kids? blink.gif );the heat was turned on and up(why???)...I could go on and on! Why would people subject themselves to that??I've never done that again.I try not to even go to the store for anything.I stay home, veg out, watch some tube or read(gasp!)get some laundry done... smile.gif

Went to Home Depot for some weekend project supplies. The place was no worse than a typical weekend. However, the rest of the Centre was crammed and traffic and parking sucked. When I left, there was a line on Rt. 40 over I-81 almost to First Data. Why would anyone in his right mind feel it neccessary to subject himself to that kind of insanity. I don't care how good the bargains are if I'm going to waste all the money I saved by burning fuel in traffic jams and cruising endlessly for a parking spot!!! No way!

I heard on the radio where there was people waiting to get in the Martinsburg Mall at 2:30 in the morning! I don't care how good the deals may be I ain't getting up that early to save $2.

Well if you ask a couple of people on here, I'm sure they would say that it's probably full of "Fat Sloppy Baby Makers."
******Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one!! ohmy.gif tongue.gif wink.gif

As for me shopping on Black Friday, heck no!!!!!!!! I would rather pay full price for whatever I need than to deal with the "rowdy" crowds!

Woman Knocked Unconscious By Wal-Mart Shoppers
Witnesses: Shoppers Stepped Over Woman Having Seizure

POSTED: 6:39 p.m. EST November 28, 2003
UPDATED: 11:10 p.m. EST November 28, 2003

ORANGE CITY, Fla. -- A 41-year-old woman was knocked unconscious and then trampled by a mob of shoppers who continued to step over her as she suffered a seizure during a Friday sale at Wal-Mart in Orange City, Fla., according to Local 6 News.

Authorities said that Patricia Van Lester arrived at Wal-Mart at 3 a.m. for an early sale on a DVD player for her mother. When the store's doors opened at 6 a.m., Van Lester grabbed the DVD player but was quickly overcome by hundreds of shoppers rushing into the store.

The woman was knocked to the ground, slammed her head on the ground and suffered at least one seizure, according to Local 6 News.

Her sister watched the incident and tried to stop the crowd as they made their way to the merchandise.

"I screamed, 'Stop, don't step on her, my sister is on the ground,' and nobody would listen," the woman's sister, Linda Ellzey said. "I've never seen so many people in a store at one time -- in one area. If there was a fire, nobody could've gotten out of there."

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the woman lying on top of the DVD player among shoppers who seemed to not even notice the unconscious woman on the floor, according to a witness.

Van Lester was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Ellzey said her sister will likely remain hospitalized for days.

I found the story above to be disheartening. I'm a bit of a humbug around X-mas because I feel people lose sight of what the holiday is all about. Everyone wants to find the best toy or gift, for the best price, and they lose their manners! People are getting trampled, and nobody notices (or doesn't care) because they've got their eye on the goal, and nothing else.

I love online shopping!

That's horrible, how can you not notice someone on the floor. Something like that happened to my aunt when a store display fell on her at Wal-Mart, and not a sole came to help although she didn't have seizure or get badly injured.

I just read more about this story.

It seems Walmart was concerned and called the hospital to ask about her condition. The store aopolgized, and offered to put a DVD player on hold for the woman. Put it on hold? You mean, after all that happened to this poor woman, they couldn't just give it to her????????? rolleyes.gif

Woman injured over mad dash for $29 DVD player
slager
I saw that article also and it sickened me. I can't believe people act like that just to get a DVD player for $29!!! They were acting like they were giving away free money, it's just a stupid DVD player that will probably break in a year any way. Wal-Mart should give that lady the DVD player for free!!!!

I used to tag along with the family on black friday every year and get some good deals but with the traffic and the crowds and the pushing and shoving we just gave it. Most of the time you can get deals just as good after black friday.

I haven't gone out to do Christmas shopping for a couple years now. Online shopping and catalog shopping is WHERE IT IS AT! Plus you get a much better selection of items, not the same old same old WalMart crap you see every year.
And you get everything delivered right to your door! The only thing is, once you order something from a catalog, you get absolutely bombarded with a gazillion catalogs in your mailbox every day. Oh well, small price to pay! rolleyes.gif

going to buy each other anything for Christmas . . .

biggrin.gif You can't tell me you actually BELIEVED her? In woman-speak, "no presents" means it'll only take you 3 months to get caught up with the budget afterwards instead of the usual 6.

ph34r.gif I did not say this . . I was not here.

BMIC my husband just told me that one the other day laugh.gif

So true!

By the way, about that Wal-Mart Shopper who was "trampled". She has a long history of injury claims. Including 9 against Wal-Mart.

The story here: http://www.local6.com/money/2683654/detail.html

After reading that, I don't think she's been very successful at making much money off of those claims, but she sure does seem to be accident-prone and very willing to file claims and/or lawsuits.

The caption of one pic calls her a "frequent faller". laugh.gif
