I just heard this from a parent & wondered what the rest of you think.

The ERH Marching Band is signed up to march in the Hancock Parade. (Therefore a commitment has been made).

This year the parade is on Halloween. (Usually it is the weekend before).

Now, the students(and probably their parents) are yelling they do not want to go, as they will miss trick or treat..

Is this crazy that the school is listening to the students? My inclination is at 6th grade you aren't trick or treating much anyway. The schoolbus takes the kids and brings them back-thus there is not much inconvience for the parents--I know I chapperoned this event for 3 years--and rode the bus...

I just wonder what message this sends the students--

IF you don't want to do something, or a better offer comes along, heck, just skip your original obligation.

that is TOTAL bunk. first of all they made a commitment. secondly, there are plenty of neighborhoods where trick or treat is not actually ON halloween. if the kids and parents are so concerned with a bag full of tootsie rolls and those "youre gonna burn in hell " religious tracks.. go on another night! teach these kids some responsibility.

maybe they should have let the kids take a vote BEFORE they signed up.

I happen to know quite of few children that are in the 6th grade still go Trick or Treating.
You still have some teenage kids that do. So that doesn't surprise me none.

Wonder why they change the day of the parade anyhow. Since it was usually a week before.

All people involved should have voted on the date. Maybe they wouldn't have had this problem.
