As much as I'd like to take my mother to NYC for Christmas shopping and a show, I cannot afford it. Are there any shows around here for Christmas that are any good? Plays/shows/whatever you want to call them...not the movie theaters!

The Maryland Theatre has some good stuff coming up.
Link to MD TheatreI'm going to the show on 12/12. Haven't heard too much about it, but should be interesting. Of course there are other Christmas happenings there also.
A little expensive, but basically big city shows.
Check the Potomac Playmakers, local theatre group. They usually present pretty good plays. Not sure if their latest is Christmas related or not.

I believe that the Maryland Theatre is going to be showing the Russian "Nutcracker". The difference between a russian nutcracker and the old run of the mill nutcracker, I haven't a clue? Sounds like it be a good one to see though Heather.

Isn't the Nutcracker a Russian production? Maybe we Americanized it.

The Russian Nutcracker, 12/22 I think, has primarily Russian dancers from the Moscow Ballet, with local kids doing minor parts. The Nucracker to be put on this weekend by the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet is composed of all local talent except the 2 principal dancers from Washington.
My daughter did the Russian Nutcracker last year, but I missed the auditions this year
