I'm going to the Capitol Theater in downtown Chambersburg on Nov. 10. I thought we'd catch a good meal prior to the show.

Any recommendations? I'd like something close to the theater. Anything worth recommending? Nothing cheap; something nice with good food.

Copper Kettle Restaurant, 1049 Lincoln Way E Chambersburg, PA 17201, (717) 264-3109:

A friend of mine had a nice dinner at The Copper Kettle in Chambersburg, Pa.
She recalled prices start at $18. and range up to $30, for a fantastic filet & crab cake meal. So two can enjoy for around $50., or the sky is the limit. She said the service was good, and they had a full menu that included Poultry, Fish, and Beef.
A copy of the menu is online. (PDF)....http://ccs.burlingtonfreepress.com/fe/chambersburg/images/copperkettle.pdf

Sadly, I have not been out to dinner in Chambersburg. I almost got a ticket for backing into someone, my only Chambersburg memory. Opps, not sure if these places are close enough to the theater. I want to get up there for a show, just have not gotten around to it. Have fun.

To add to community's post, the cottage is smoke free.

There is also the Orchards, its right off Wayne Avenue on orchard drive.

The Orchards

I've eaten at The Cottage, and I don't think the food is very good. In my experience, it's just a step up from bar food. Similar to the kind of stuff you'd get at Olivers.

I've heard good things about the Copper Kettle, but never eaten there.

I've also heard good things about The Orchards. Only been there to drink, but the dining room looks nice and so does the menu.

My mom and I have lunched at The Cozy Inn. Good food and nice atmosphere there, too.

did NOT like the copper kettle. like, at all. first off, it has a "lodge-y" atmosphere, and that's not really my bag... each party does get a separate dining room... basically its a house, and every room has been turned into dining area. the food sounded good on the menu, but nothing was prepared well enough to be worth the price. boo.

i do like the orchards. menu had variety, food is good, and occasionally they have really good live music there. makes for a good night out at a reasonable price.

Thanks for your responses, all.

I went to a wedding reception at the Orchards awhile back (last year I think), I wasn't too impressed with the food; but then I'm not sure how much you can compare their catering with their restaurant fare.

I was checking the Chamber of Commerce website for downtown, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of restaurants near the center of town.

I've worked in Franklin County for 14 yrs and IMO Schoenberger's is by far the best restaurant in Chambersburg. It's only a few blocks from Rt 11 on Lincoln Way East.

Wow, looks like Idiot saves the day. His suggestion looks promising. I am definitely going to have to venture up to Chambersburg and try one of these places. biggrin.gif

That looks like a great spot, and within walking distance of the theater, I'm guessing, from looking at the map.

Thanks.

It's not a long walk but it's not well lit and the sidewalks were kinda crappy the last time I walked it, which was years ago when the Washington House was still in business.

Btw, people rave about their crab imperial but it's a little too rich for me. Everything else on the menu is excellent though.

The Cottage, for sure!

Bar in front, restaraunt in back.

GREAT seafood burrito!

Not much on ambiance, but food quality makes up for it.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I thought I'd check make in here and let y'all know which place I chose.

Shoenberger's is awesome! I had the Saturday special, Prime Rib, with the chef's starch, which happened to be a twice baked potato half and the house salad with the house dressing. My companion had the broiled scallops and the same side orders.

Of course the dinner was preceded with a Bloody Mary (which my companion said was one of the best she's had) and I with a Jim Beam and Coke (which was pretty much half coke and half Beam).

The food was excellent, the wait staff attentive and friendly and the ambiance excellent.

We skipped dessert, which we often do.

I definitely will be returning. Thanks Idiot, great suggestion. I've found a new favorite restaurant.

Wow! High praise! Thanks for the heads up... maybe we'll check it out soon.

I'm glad you like it. How was the show?
Yossarian
It was good, music from the 40's, big band stuff--Benny Goodman, Harry James. The seats in the Capitol Theater are not the greatest in the world, very narrow and shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors. Lots of Buick drivers there... biggrin.gif .
