GARRETT COUNTY, MD - Authorities in Garrett County say an inmate has escaped from the detention center.
The sheriff's office is looking for 19-year-old Ronald Smith Junior, who was serving an 18-month sentence for felony theft.
Officials said Smith was last seen wearing blue thermal underwear and jail-issued black and white trousers, but he was not wearing shoes.
Authorities believe Smith may have also stolen a car, and crashed it when he tried to speed past a Maryland State Police checkpoint.
At this time prison officials are not saying how Smith escaped but tell us he has relatives in the area.
Law enforcement is telling residents that live in the area of Route4 95 and Dry Run Road in Garrett County to lock their doors and cars.
If you have any information you are asked to call the Garrett County Sheriff's Office.
