ANNAPOLIS, MD - Maryland lawmakers ended their three-week special session around 2:30 a.m. by raising the sales and cigarette tax and letting voters decide whether slots should be legalized.
Here are the highlights:
Voters will decide whether to legalize up to 15-thousand slots machines in five locations, including Rocky Gap Lodge in Cumberland.

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Maryland lawmakers ended their three-week special session around 2:30 a.m. by raising the sales and cigarette tax and letting voters decide whether slots should be legalized.
Here are the highlights:
- the sales tax will go up to 6% (from 5%) and will include computer services
- cigarette tax doubled to $2 a pack
- corporate income tax will rise from 7% to 8.25%
- people making over $150,000 a year will pay higher income taxes
- most taxpayers will get an $800 boost in their personal exemption
- health insurance coverage expanded
