Do we have any of those unusual folks here that actually enjoy getting up before dawn to save a few bucks and maybe get in a fist fight over a $12 DVD player? I saw a Kohl's ad today that said doors open at 4am. My wife and one of her sisters are going out shopping, but not until normal hours.

PS - online shopping doesn't count. wink.gif

I haven't done Black Friday since high school.

I don't think we are this year. There is really nothing that we need to get. We're doing the gift card thing this year for just about everybody. We aren't in the market for anything that might be on sale, so I don't really see the point. About the only thing I would be interested in getting are dvd boxsets of tv shows. Many of the places put them on deep discount on Black Friday.

The Outlet mall is opening tomorrow night at midnight. That really sucks for the people that working at the shops there. They pretty much get screwed out of having a normal regular Thanksgiving with their families.
SMan
I forgot about the Prime Outlets doing a midnight opening. I think they've done that for a year or two. I can't imagine being out shopping a 1 or 2 in the morning. blink.gif

I used to work 3:30pm to midnight. I would go to Wal-Mart after work sometimes to pick up a few things. You wouldn't believe the freak show that was the Hagerstown Wal-Mart at 1am.

About 2 or 3 years ago, I was at Wal-Mart at midnight on Christmas Eve. Talk about INSANE. Went with a bachelor friend who hadn't done a lick of shopping. I was tipsy, however, so it was mildly entertaining... although very, very scary.

I would. Wal-Mart is a freak show during regular daytime hours, so I can just imagine... blink.gif

If I recall correctly, Prime Outlets gave out free goodie bags to the first 100 customers starting at midnight last Thanksgiving, and the cops had to be called because the the ensuing frenzy. Also, there were cars backed up onto the interstate from the exits closest to the outlets. Good times!

A few of my neighbors are talking about going, but most have said they're shopping online this year.

I'm not going out at all on Friday ph34r.gif

I stand corrected. My wife is going out at 5am, so she is officially one of the crazies. biggrin.gif

My son left the house at 10?30 last night to hook up with friends who were doing the Prime Outlet dance. Got home at 5 am!

The wife of one of my car-poolers had gone to Wal-Mart and was back home by his pick-up time of 6:15 am.

I've NEVER done Black Friday, don't think I'm gonna start any year soon.
Yossarian
Black Friday, the day everyone buys Christmas presents that will be returned/exchanged on Dec. 26. biggrin.gif

Not me, no way.
Udmas
Looks like a lot of people like Black Friday.

According to ShopperTrak RCT Corp., which tracks sales at more than 50,000 retail outlets, total sales rose 8.3 percent to about $10.3 billion on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, compared with $9.5 billion on the same day a year ago. ShopperTrak had expected an increase of no more than 4 percent to 5 percent.

i saw that... effin' morons left a toddler in the freezing cold car at like 2 am at the outlets. mad.gif hope the sales were worth it. what makes me mad is that two of them were there.someone could have waited in the car... or at home... with the kid...not that there is EVER an excuse... that just makes it even more unbelievable and cruel.

The kid was put in a Foster home by C S. Until the parents court date.

Couple Leaves Infant In Cold Car While Shopping Reported by: Scott Hershberger
Friday, Nov 23, 2007 @04:47pm EST
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - A shopping trip on Black Friday ended in charges for a local couple.

Police said the couple left a two-year-old alone in a cold car during Thursday night's chilly weather. Police said it took someone else to watch out for the baby's safety and call the authorities. The Washington County Sheriff's Office was called to the Prime Outlets in Hagerstown just before 3:00 a.m.

When they got there, officers found a young boy strapped to a car seat, cold and crying, but the parents were nowhere to be found.

A young Waynesboro, Pennsylvania couple may have gotten so caught up in the Black Friday craze that they left something very important behind.

"A concerned citizen called into the Sheriff's Department in reference to an unattended child left in the parking lot," said Jason Litten, Deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The two-and-a-half year old baby boy is the child of 20-year-old Laura Havens. Deputies said Havens and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Casey Shields, abandoned the child as temperatures dipped down near the freezing point.

"The male seemed to be more concerned about the child than the female was; the biological mother. She had not much concern or care for what was going on," said Litten.

Deputy Litten said it was the child's young cries from the backseat of a car that got the attention of nearby shoppers. When the young couple finally did arrive, an officer was waiting for them.

"They walked out to us, and at that point, both the male and the female were taken into custody and taken to the Washington County Sheriff's Department," said Litten.

Havens and Shields were charged with reckless endangerment while the child was taken to Washington County Hospital.

"I’ve seen children that are very sick, died of cancer. That's something you can't prevent, but this is preventable, and this is wrong. It really is," said Peggy Gregory, Martinsburg resident.

"Priorities in life; obviously family comes first, children are obviously close to the top of that ladder. The sales were going on all day today. I'm sure just as good in the daylight hours as they were at midnight," said Edwin Sharp, Winchester resident.

The boy is expected to be okay, ut the future of his mother and her boyfriend is uncertain. After the young child was released from the hospital, he was turned over to Casey Shields' parents.

The details as to why the child was not given to a blood relative are still unclear. Shields and Havens are still being held at the Washington County Detention Center.

I was just wondering where Mcgee got that the child was taken to Foster Care.

I seen that on the news, when the story first broke.
I just didn't feel like posting it. I was thinking them fools.

Thank You CD, News brought to you by Christine smile.gif

C S is first in line to take the kid. Then who ever is next of kin if oked by C S.
sweetliberty2u
Now that makes perfect sense really.

Because why would the police officers call the family.
More then likely their going to call C S, first of course.
I believe that's the first thing they do when they come across something like this.

Looks like the reporter got the information after that fact.
They got the information after the child was place with family.
