I'm thinking of getting my dad one of those memory books, or "this is your life" books for Christmas. You know, those books where parents and grandparents can write down their answers to questions that are written in the book about their lives. Occasionally I'll see them in mail order catalogs and when I went online I didn't realize how many different types there really are. They range in sizes and prices from small and inexpensive to large and expensive.

Has anybody here ever bought one or received one? Any advice or likes/dislikes?

To me it sounds like a great ideal.

Where you say you saw these books? Could you post a link, if you don't mine?

I wouldn't mine getting one for myself to write things down in.
Just wish I knew about it before my mother passed away. sad.gif

i got one for my mother a few years back... i had trouble picking one out, but i found one that had plenty of spaces for writing, but also had some pages for like, photos, fabric scraps, recipies, etc... also game with some cute little embellishmets... stickers, 3d paper thingers... i think i actually got it at AC Moore.

We got 1 for both my parents and my wifes parents when our daughter was born. We wanted them to fill in all the answers so that when our daughter got older she could read what our parents lives were like and the things they did. We really liked the book as it had questions such as the price of certain things when they were young to the first car, best friends, first jobs, places they went etc..so many different questions. They are great to have since you can pass them down from generation to generation.

I ran a search on Amazon.com for Memory Books and came up with quite a few. These looked interesting:

I was looking at this one for my son to give to Dad, but it seems kind of small:

This one sounds very nice. Although it's a lot more expensive, it's much larger:

I didn't think to check AC Moore, Burninator (I can't get used to that name!) I'll have to get on that wink.gif

Well guys, let me say:
My nieces bought a "
Grandma, Tell Me Your Memories" by Kathy Lashier and My Mom who just passed at 100 on October 29th filled it out about 5 years ago. What a treasure. I used its questions as a script to tape her memories about 3 years ago. I didn't have a video recorder much to my dismay. But I can heartily recommend the whole series- From you to your folks to the grands and if you're REALLY lucky the Grgrands.

I'll be announcing the prizes to be awarded in our website's first 6" of snow contest in a day or two and a pair of those mom and dad books will be 1st prize-not the GRAND prize, but 1st place. Geez, all we need is the snow. Buy those books or something similar. Although I can't see her answering those questions about her childhood prolly 95 years back, I can hear her!!!
