My humidifier stopped working. Cleaned the filters and cleaned the unit. Still not working. Have receipt and crappy warranty. Going to write to the company. Poor Bishop is full of static electricity. Snap, crackle, pop...everywhere he goes. sad.gif

Cat got stuck behind the dryer. Moved the dryer forward to retrieve cat. Pushed dryer back and broke the hose. Replaced hose and now I can't move the dryer back into the space it came from. Went to close the bifold doors to see if they would still close, the door came off in my hands. mad.gif

Leaned the door against the wall until I get to it later. Cat jumps on top ledge of the door making the door crash into my bathroom door leaving a big gash. Another hole to fix.

Sounds like my problem is cats. dry.gif

Bought a pair of jeans from American Eagle. Wore them once and some stitching fell out.

My Roomba hasn't worked for ages.

Mousepad ruined from spilled drink. My fault. rolleyes.gif

Electronic picture frame thing won't work.

My car door has a loose part banging around inside the driver's side door.

THE LIST NEVER ENDS, DOES IT? I'm starting to just pitch things when they break.

That's the beauty of home ownership... you're always pouring cash into your house. sad.gif

Yeah, agreed, PF! And we all thought it was the American Dream..... sometimes it can be a nightmare!

Sounds like you need a good handy man. laugh.gif

"My Roomba hasn't worked for ages." Now that just sucks.

Poor Pook. Naughty kitties are a terror sometimes. But, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Sig other isn't "handy"?

This is a throw away world we live in. They just don't make things like they use too. sad.gif

I disagree a little. I just think there is more cheap stuff made to give people affordable options than there used to be. When I'm able to afford better made items (vehicles, appliances, electronics, tools, etc.) instead of buying cheaper versions, I've had very good luck with reliability and quality. People want/need things on the cheap and you usually get what you pay for.
Heather
I liked your old sig, SMan. It made me snort every time I read it.

Nah, Scottie isn't too handy. Neither am I. I give it hell though!

Is 52 bucks for a humidifier cheap?

Thats a good price. I payed 79$ for mine. It has a UV light to sterilize the water. Got it at Best Buy in Hagerstown. LOVE IT! I don't know why I didn't get one earlier.
Have you tried checking the library for some How-To books to help with the repairs? You can go online and search their records for the books, put a "hold" on them, and they'll pull them from the shelves and have them waiting for you! They'll call you to let you know your order is ready. You do have to have a library card tho.

Plumbing work isn't that hard at least I don't think it is.

Most women could do minor repair work with out calling a plumber or anyone else and save money to.
It pays to buy a few Home Improvement books, I know I learn alot from them.

Hey I was married to a plumber once, but he didn't know how to work with his tools. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I have mine in my bedroom. Both my doctors said to use it at night while I'm sleeping for my sinus'. It's working great.

Thanks!! I'm sold on the idea. Hope it will help keep me healthier. The UV light is a great idea. We have to have one for our well water too. Thanks again.

I can do a few minor repairs....Hubby would never get anything done at his regular job if I couldn't. I really don't recommend that an inexperienced homeowner do anything extensive that requires messing with electricity, though.

I did my own eletrical work here. I'm no inexperience homeowner. At least I had the sense enough to call my electrical friend to check my work. I got a A+ smile.gif Only thing I won't mess with is the electrical box. I did hired someone to replace that.

I'm just not your average woman, I like doing things like that. I like to stand back and say a job will done. smile.gif
Besides, I could never count on anyone to do anything for me and got tried of asking so I learn how too.
I can't exactly afford to pay the prices these company charges for a few hours of work.

I like to stand back and say "job well done", too. I also like showing Hubby that I am not a pansy or a helpless flower!

I love to TRY to fix things and manual labor is fun for me too!

Bought myself an electric chain saw for Christmas - GREAT FUN!

Have all my own tools (Hubby not much on putting things back, so I needed tools I could actually FIND)

Live in a 100+ year old house, always fixing/remodeling something.

Hubby calls me "Jelsey"-Jobsite!

+1 on that. It makes sense, too. Where else, except maybe a desk job at work, do you spend 6+ hours breathing the same room of air in one sitting.

Wow, I love to see the house you live in so much history to that one.
They sure don't build houses like they use to. Built to last for years to come, your so lucky.

You think electric chain saw is fun, try the gas one now that's real power. laugh.gif

When I was married I use to hear this all the time.

I would say Honey can you fix this and then he would say. Well I worked all day I'm tired.
Needless to say that's where is all started and that's when I stop asking and started doing.

WVDragon, might want to also try a Air Cleaner. There's all kinds of stuff in the air that can cause sinus problems.

Hubby has the gas powered chain saw, that thing is just too heavy for me to use for long periods, hence, my little 16" electric only weighs (I'm guessing here) about 6 lbs.

Only draw back is I have to use two 100-foot extension cords to reach the back of the yard. Gonna buy a generator so I can reach the whole 4 acres.

Must be nice to have all that space, sure does sound real nice.

Found it the 2nd day we were at the realtors. It just sort of fell in our lap.

$45,000 for 4 acres, 4 bedroom house, detached workshop & garage.

Not to sound preachy, but I honestly believe God sent it to us on purpose. Was having quite a bit of paranormal activity (which I adored), but when the "entities" started yelling our names, it was time to call in my brother-in-law, the Bishop, to "bless" it.

Ghosties/Demons/Entitles/Whatever are gone now (or at least, quiet), and I really think that was God's purpose for us to be there.

Besides, who ELSE would want all the work we've put into that money-pit?

Not to derail this thread, but I'd LOVE to hear more about your paranormal activity!

I'll try to start a thread, maybe we can all contribute our ghostie stories.

I've tried to document things that have happened over the years, someday I want to write a book about the old house and it's history.

Wanna pre-order one?

That thread would be fun, Jelsey. We have a 100 year old house too. And our own personal ghost, at least according to hubby and boys. I've yet to meet her!

You need to do more hangin' with my peeps... they are the totally handiest guys in the world. Seriously. They are #1 do-it-yourselfers, from building decks to framing out basements to repairing plumbing.

Fortunately, Hubby is usually willing to try and tackle most jobs, too.

Lowes offers do-it-yourself classes. Wheeeee! What fun! We can take one together and learn to tile our bathrooms. LOL

My alarm clark has been on the tv stand since I moved in, so I guess it's useful for something. I can't have the alarm clock beside the bed or else I'll just turn it off and go back to sleep. I have to make myself get up and walk across the room to turn it off.

I think the problem with my bifold laundry doors is that they're too heavy. I did some more assessing and manuevering of them last night. I have other bifold doors in the house that I don't have problems with and the difference is that they are lighter and have thin slats all up and down them. My laundry doors are solid wood. No slats. I don't think the hardware and track are sturdy enough to support them. The track is all bent up from the rollers pushing the edges out.

I'm thinking that the girl that lived here before me made a bunch of so-called "improvements" before she went to sell the house. In doing so, I believe she might have gone the cheap/easy route in sprucing up things that would make the house more aesthetically pleasing.

When I originally saw the house, I made a list of stuff that I wanted fixed. The paint on the back porch was peeling badly so I asked that that be painted. It just peeled again a couple months after I bought the place. I found the paint she used in the shed. Old, nasty paint that looked like it had been in the shed for years.

By the way, when I went to fill the birdfeeder during the snowfall the other day, the birdfeeder broke. dry.gif

My internet keeps going in and out too. Guess that's another thread.
