Being new to the area I am wondering how (or if) Charles Town has changed since the introduction of slot machines at the race track? Good? Bad? Asking for comments from people who live there.

Well I guess it depends on whether or not you consider more traffic being good or bad. It certainly has brought that. I live right off US 340, between Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. What used to be a quick 10 or 15 minute trip into Charles Town to go to the bank or a fast food place now takes atleast a half hour or more. But it's hard to tell if all of the traffic is from the track or from the growth in this area.
It has brought jobs, but not the kind to make a living off of and to support a family. The crime rate has also gone up here also, but I really don't think that has anything to do with the track.
Penn National has done a good job restoring the track and bringing some life back into it, but I guess you have to take the bad things along with the good.

The race track has brought restaurants to Charles Town, but traffic has really gotten bad. However, like JimB said it's hard to tell if that's from the tracks or overall growth in the area.
