U.S. and Mexican officials are discussing an agreement that would allow millions of Mexicans to return home and still collect U.S. Social Security benefits.

Fantastic! Not only can you come into our country (illegally) now, get paid under the table, and send all your earnings back into the Mexican economy, but you can also get paid for life from the good old tax paying American. Supporters of the proposal say that Illegals pay millions into the Social Security program each year and should be granted their fair share! Well I don't know if anyone heard about the raid on El Rancheros in Martinsburg and Winchester, which found over 65% of the help were illegal immigrants that were being paid under the table (No taxes). This irks me to no end when every week $150 or more is being taken out of my pay check to support people who don't contribute anything to Social Security!

If this passes through Congress I will be apaulled and will certainly be on the phone to everyone assosiated with this legislation. Hey if they can get away breaking the tax laws and still get Social Security why can't I? Everyone needs to get informed about this disturbing proposal. mad.gif

That just shows how far politicians will go to get the Hispanic vote.

Yes, this is the biggest crock I've seen in some time. Let's support another country entirely--heck, let's just adopt them--it might be cheaper...oh wait--we've done that already--it was called Puerto Rico--and we pay out the ying yang to those citizens and no, they do not pay taxes to the US either...

I never understood why they don't pay US taxes if they're a US possesion. Especially since they recieve federal aid.

What is the reason given for NOT making P R a state? Anybody know?

The Puerto Ricans a few years ago on remaining a territory instead of becoming a state. Then some people don't want Puerto Rico to become a state just because the island is poor, and then some more people worry about what would you do about the fact that most Puerto Rican's speak Spanish as their first language (even though they all speak English) and the official language of the USA is English.

The people of Puerto Rico decided to remain independant and voted to remain that way. They can come back and forth the US at will so I don't think that it has anything to do with their language or wealth.

What I just don't get is how they can think that this will help them get any LEGITIMATE hispanic votes.

I would expect that LEGAL immigrants would be the most severe critics of those who would give the same rights to illegals that they had to work hard to get. Okay so she's not hispanic, but the Jamaican American with whom I work is very proud of her U.S. citizenship and all that she did to gain it lawfully. She is a VERY outspoken critic of this kind of thing!

Maybe if we did a better job keeping illegals from voting, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of nonsense.
