I am watching the news this morning and they said they have Saddam Captured alive. They showed some video of him and it was funny because he was really scruffy and hadn't shaved for a while. He was found in a hole behind a house in Tikrit and they captured him without firing a shot. So what do you think we should do with him?

Does your heart miss a beat when you turn on tv at 7am on Sunday morning and see Dan Rather sitting there? And then turn to CNN and see "Breaking News" I know that I feared the worst but this is good news.

Glad they got him. Now its time for JUSTICE!
WVU-Mountaineers
Do you all think that we'll try him, or he'll be sent to the International Tribunal thing in the Hague like Milosovik (or however you spell his name).
SMan
My guess would be they try him in Iraq to add some legitimacy to the new government and show the despicable Arab governments around them how a democracy works.
WVU-Mountaineers
I guess if they do that it'll be like the Nurnburg trials in Germany after WWII.
Romulus
Its going to be the Iraqis. They have listed him as the first to try if he was ever captured. We will keep him for awhile though to gather intel on WMD and terrorist cells that "may" be in parts of Iraq.

All this whoopty-do rolleyes.gif . It's not gonna get us out of there any sooner. And I would have been much more happier to see the local news and weather than all the guesstimations and the probablies and the "we think" crap that was on a 6am and is STILL on at 1pm!!! A short 5-10 min. news break would have done the job just as well and then when the conference was on then come back. And of course another soilder was killed this morning trying to deactivate a bomb/landmine that was found. The beat goes on...... dry.gif

YOU BET!

Let them follow their own barbaric traditions and have him beheaded .... and force Al Jazeera to televise it live!

Hmmm . . . I think I'm getting caught up in the emotions of the moment! Then again, as long as his head comes off in one stroke of the sword, it's still reasonably humane, no?

P.S. WVD I agree to an extent. The way the media overdo everything noteworthy over and over and over again . . . just sickens me!
SMan
I may be wrong on this (I'm too lazy to research it at the moment to provide a link), but I believe one of the few things the new Iraqi government has decided on for their "new" country is no death penalty.

I guess they had their fill of executions under Saddam.

Edited to show link to article referencing the U.S. suspending the death penalty earlier this year. I guess the Iraqis themselves haven't made a final decision one way or the other.

I heard on NBC today where top Iraqi leaders might've lied to Sadam Hussein about WMD's where they told Hussein that they had the weapons, when in reality they had destroyed them.

If they do, then good for 'em! While I'm not an opponent of the death penalty in general, it would be encouraging to see them so dramatically turn from their horrid past.

I read on the internet this morning that our troops were about ready to drop a grenade in the whole that Saddam was hiding in. Then he identified himself in English and he surrendered.
txexpatriot
Bummer--would have loved to have seen the grenade shots..
I think it is hysterical that he wanted to 'deal'..
but the media is nuts...I have to watch the movie channels interspersed with news in the morning..I do not want to miss anything, but I cannot stand it---Michael Jackson junk is back...They are whining already about USAMA van idiot already...
Sign me tired..

wink.gif I'm soooo glad they took him alive. He has a lot of information that is very important to the safety of the United States. He also, I'm sure has info on other Countries that I'm sure they wouldn't want him to share with us. Just hope no one tries to assassinate him like they did Oswald to shut him up. Oh, sometimes how I wish I could be a fly on the wall (with good hearing of course!) LOL

I read where the CIA was taking over the interrogation because whoever was doing it before wasn't getting any information out of him I wonder what it will take to get him to talk??

12 hour marathon of ABC's flop of a show "Life according to Jim"
momsapilot
No, Rom. Wrong station.....pretty much anything from Fox will work!
txexpatriot
Show him the station that plays the same movie every night for a week...for a while I could not get rid of James Bond and The World Is Not Enough(for an airsickness bag)...
WVU-Mountaineers
Just make him watch reality shows, he'll then immediatly come clean.

ohmy.gif Can't they give him truth serum or hypnotise him since he is not in this Country? I'm not sure, but I believe their are different rules for pow's as far as what is allowed in interrogations in other countries compared to what is allowed in our Country.

I found this on a news site:

In recent weeks U.S. officials, namely Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, have emphasized that the USA will not resort to such tactics to get more information out of hundreds of al-Qaeda and Taliban detainees being held in Cuba, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

However, there are signs that U.S. officials hope to benefit from interrogations by other governments that might not adhere to such guidelines.

I also read that truth serum doesn't exactly make you loose control of what you are saying but it does make you more uninhibited where as you might spill the beans as you're more relaxed, but there are other alternatives to truth serum that can be applied.

I'm sure, the CIA won't pass up the chance to do whatevery is necessary to hinder future attacks on us. As long as he is not in the USA and he can be questioned by other Country members it should be allowable.

Anyone else have any info on this?

Saddam Emerges From Hole, Sees Shadow; Six More Months of War

TIKRIT, Iraq (DPI) - Saddam Hussein came out of his hole this weekend and saw his shadow, guaranteeing six more months of Iraqi resistance. The traditional Ground-Hussein Day was celebrated throughout Iraq with festive explosions and looting. According to Tikrit's town fathers, when Hussein emerged from his long winter slumber, he saw his shadow cast by the bright oil pipeline fires on the horizon, promising continued Iraqi insurgency. President Bush responded to Hussein's threats, saying, "Bring 'em on, bang a gong, bring 'em on." Videos of Hussein's appearance are available from Halliburton for a small 600-percent mark-up.
