With the recent suspected and confirmed rebirth of old members under new names, it got me thinking. Could you pull off a new ID here and not have people catch on? There's no way I could do it. I'd get busted within 10 posts. It's easy to mask your opinions, at least for a while. My problem would be my writing style quirks, like bad use of punctuation, certain spelling mistakes, etc. Obviously, it'd be easier for a person with few post to do it. I'm wondering about those with several hundred or more posts.

And what is the motivaion for doing it in the first place? A fresh start? To troll and agitate? You forget your old password?

I think mostly it's a re-birth by someone who's been suspended or perhaps banned.

We don't seem to have many people here who have multiple ID's, and you're right, after 10 or so posts I think the regulars here would readily pick them out.

Some on here have changed their nics, but for the most part have let everyone know they've taken a new nic.

Personally, I don't have a problem with someone taking another nic, maybe they're trying to clean up their act and want a fresh start, if so, I'm all for it.

But those that change, just to troll, flame and bait.... well, shame on ya'.

Plus, my memory is sooo bad that I wouldn't remember what I said under what identity and I'd have to keep notes beside my computer to be consistent!! Too much work!

I do have another identity, Polka Dot. But, I just used it in the shout box to cheer up Burn and somebody else. But, laid Polka Dot to rest. It was just a joke.

I have to say, that lately, I am curious! So many new posters at one time. Where did you guys come from?? Do you all know each other?? Like Ana, Sunshine, and of course, I can't remember who else.

But, you guys are fun and I'd like to hear why you're here too. I always wonder if I know the new people in real life, or if they are former posters under a new name. Drives my curiosity absolutely crazy!!

Then, the other side is that we have a whole lotta new members and they never post a word?? Why do they join then??

During the 2004 election I had 3 different accounts on redstate at the same time. They were totally different personalities. One was a preacher and one was a cop, or at least that's what they assumed based on my screen names. They love preachers and cops. I sometimes would argue both sides of an issue in the same thread. Started it out of boredom more than anything else, just to see if I could get away with it. As far as I know no one ever suspected.

Sorry to let some of you down. I Don't care who this other person is that sounds like me and I'm sorry that some feel I'm that person. Maybe it's the writting style, Blunt, speak my mind, say it as I feel, Or The mear fact I'm a Mopar nut. But in a former post if memory serves me correctly this other person drove a Ford Pick up. If I say something that offends others I'm sorry, sometimes it's not ment for the others too be assoicated with. I enjoy coming into the forums and reading alot of what's going on. I have my own opionion's as do you all. The problem went somewhere along the lines in the HM forums that I've been labeled as a past member. It's a shame that some can dish it and get away with it, and when they get put in there place "I" get called down for it. Oh well. I am also a member of the local Alzheimers chapter, and a care taker of my parents, work a full time job and run my own business. Ok I'm a a money hog. That's because I also help pay for my parents bills. Did this other person that some of you think I am do any of that? Of course not!!! They sat at 7-11 and stole their internet service to get to the net. Me like you all I pay for my internet.

well--i'm kinda new to posting on this forum--but i read the forum a long, long time before i actually signed up has a member--i really wish i would have done it sooner though--i used to read the posts and i would have the same opinions (or sometimes different ones) as other members and i wanted to have a say too. since i have joined, i have met alot of great members (ana, chip, heather, burn etc just to name a few) i have gotten to know a little about them although i do not know them personally--i enjoy reading everyones opinions (good or bad) and i like being a part of a local forum and learning more about this area--i often wonder too if i know any of the members personally--but thats part of the fun here--so now im addicted--i might need to go to celebrity rehab soon--lol

I am a new member (I actually signed on under a week ago). I personally, would never be able to sign on under a new name. I think the folks here (especially the mod) would know who I was in a second. I had read the forum for several weeks before actually creating an account. I new I would become immediately addicted! LOL. I am a very opinionated person by nature, so I think my hesitation in forming a new account came from that. I knew that I would not be able to sit back and read if I saw something that I strongly disagreed with. With that said, in my first week I have some great discussions and a few debates. I have also received a few warnings and a gag order from the MOD on a certain topic all in my first few days. I do not know anyone on the forum personally but I would love to have a gathering where we all stay annonymous as to our screen names. I do love this forum and to agree with Sunshine. The 10 steps of being a crazy new poster.

1) new poster signs up
2) new poster lurks for a week or so then starts adding to topics
3) new poster seems ok. semi normal acting
4) (first sign of trouble) new poster says something either sexually suggestive (Usually to Heather ) or brings up topic like " You know that nambla group or the klan aint so bad"
5) new poster is reminded by Mods and posters that have been here for a while that the behavior is not suitable
6) new poster goes on a rampage and threatens everyone that happens to be on at this time with bodily violence
7) new poster is suspended by admin or mods
8) suspension over. new poster comes back and profusely apologizes to everyone for their behavior.
9) new poster does something even worse now they are banned by admin for good
10) another "new poster" shows up (usually the next day) with a new name but talks like, has the same views on opinions, and has the same grammatical and spelling problems as the poster that was just banned!

REPEAT from step #1

This is only about 2% of all new posters and the ones that arent loons are usually welcomed into the group with open arms. But lets face it the "one bad apple" theory does come into play until someone shows everyone else they are "semi-normal" and will not be stalking anyone.

Here is also a tip for the "new posters" if in the real world you have NO friends and most of the people you meet are repulsed by you don't expect to come in here with the same character flaws and then wonder why nobody "likes" you. Chances are its the same reason nobody "likes" you in the real world

I would like to bring up another slant though. If it is an issue or concern for someone, then PM the person directly or inform the MOD and address it directly, otherwise we go on and on with veiled references. Some of the jokes or references refer back to stuff from 3 or 4 years ago, shutting out many newer posters. I think this excludes some and they get cranky.

While I am sure the intent is to be friendly and witty, at a point it gets old and some are like What the heck are you referring to? It becomes an inside joke. I do not care. But I have heard some are scratching their head. We go round and round, maybe one needs to be direct in a respectful manner, like a PM. If it is such a burning issue. Not trying to be a party pooper, but it looks like that I know. Just my 2 cents, trying to be friendly as some may not realize we r referring to some famous dual posters like Flip or Rowdy.

I don't think I could pull off an alternate identity, and I don't see any reason that I would ever try to do so. If I behaved in such a way on a forum that I pissed off people and/or I was banned, then I would have no desire to try to sneak in again. What would be the point of trying to play with a bunch of people who have no interest in including you? I don't know. Wouldn't you have to make up a bunch of small personal details for your new persona, to try to throw them off your original scent? I don't want to post on the forums with little crib notes by my side. Also, Samy0 is totally right, many people have distinctive styles which will come through no matter what sorts of little backstories they fabricate. I think I would rather go find something else to do with my free time than try to sneak back onto the forums if I were kicked off for some reason.

When I created this thread, I wasn't thinking of the folks with valid name changes. I was gearing it towards the multiple ID pot stirrers.

Agree Sman, I got side tracked, I was attempting to be supportive to one poster who was feeling pinched/confused. As Dragon says so well, we love digressing, at least I do. I can go round and round and realize I am totally lost until Dragon leads back.

The weather for Tuesday : Chance of rain turning into dark. Then turning to day light. Followed by more dark and day light the rest of the year. I`M not a weather man but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once.

I'm very GUILTY!!!! The reason I came back as Unique and another name <i forget> was because I made a few very good Friends on here. All of the members knew it was me and I wanted to say "yes it's me" But after lying it was to hard and very embarrassing!!
