Full Version: A Political Theory

I have sometimes felt that the President of the USA is more of a political "prop" and that the Vice President seems to be more aloof but having more power behind the scenes.

I don't like politics and have a hard time believing anything that I read, so I'd like to hear opinions from you all who are more up on the topics.

So, what do you think?

Also, if Obama were to win the Democratic nomination, what are the chances of appointing Hilary to run as VEEP? Then, for the first time in history, we have a minority running for POTUS and a female for Vice President.

With that in mind, don't cha think Hil would still run the show??

Just a theory now! smile.gif

I have always thought that the VP was just a figurehead. As one very bored VP said,
QUOTE
Thomas R. Marshall, the 28th Vice President, lamented: "Once there were two brothers. One went away to sea; the other was elected vice president. And nothing was heard of either of them again."

I do not believe Hillary would be able to stoop so low as to accept being 2nd banana. She is more of an all or nothing kinda gal.

That's what I use to think, too, TexEx. But, then I was thinking that the Vice President isn't as accountable for his actions as the Pres. (pls let me know if I am wrong..... I've read this somewhere, can't remember where.) Anyway, a president can be impeached but not a VP. Right?

So, I am wondering if alot of stuff is going on, quietly, behind the scenes with VP planning and follow through.

Anyone, know if this is true?

And, yeah, I have to agree with your opinion of Hil. She is needs to be top dog. But, you never know.
Idiot
The VP can have as much power as the president decides to give him/her. Up until Cheney that hasn't been very much, at least in my lifetime. And yes the VP can be impeached. There is a Cheney impeachment resolution in the House right now led by Dennis Kucinich.

I personally don't think Hillary would accept the VP position if asked. I think she'll stay in the Senate and use parliamentary tactics to hold up Obama's or McCain's programs as much as possible and hope that Bush has screwed things up so badly that the next person is doomed to failure anyway. Then she can come back in 2012 and say "I told you so."

She has 4 more years in office without running again and she'll only be 64 years old. That's what I would do.
