Can anyone recommend a good trustworthy roofer or roofing company in the Hagerstown area?
I don't think I need a new roof (the house is only 12 yrs old), but some of the asphalt shingles have lost their adhesive and are flapping in the wind.
Thanks.

I can't find the guy's name right now in the phone book. But I see him every morning at Sheetz getting coffee. His name is Hunter that's all I can remember right now. I don't remember his business name but he's a roofer and a dawm good one. He did some work for us a few years back. I'll get his name and phone number and I'll PM you with it ok.
Dodge.
P.S. He drives a Chevy so yeah the war was on.... LOL... just kidding but I did have some fun with him over it.

Yoss, The roof will be ok for a little while. you have felt paper under the shingles. I would call Bonded Aplacaters roofing co. They have been in business for a long time.
They do very good work.
I did roofing work for 15 years. But sorry my knees won`t take bending down on a steep slope.

Good luck finding a roofer.

Dodge, I'd appreciate that.
You also, Mcgee.
I'm starting to lose pieces of shingles so I don't want to put it off too long.
I'll probably end up calling a couple people; the hardest thing will probably be finding someone to do such a small job.

Isn't that always the way it goes? Ya see someone everyday, but when you're looking for them they suddenly disappear.
Thanks Dodge.

Yoss,
Short term, if you can get on your roof, get some asphalt-based roofing cement in a caulk tube at Lowes and use it to glue down any lose shingles or glue-on any that have come off. Makes the urgency factor go down a bit.
Now should be a good time -- home improvement is slow so hopefully they will be hungry.

Get a big blue tarp and drape it over your house.

Sorry I couldn't help myself.
Try Poffenberger & Son's they put a new roof on for me last year. Good price and workmanship.

do you have a ladder that can get me up on your roof? Couple tubes of black cat and I can seal whatever is loose. as soon as the temps get a little higher they will most likely seal them selfes for a while.
BTW I will come over and do it free. I am not a roofer but I have roofed alot of houses.

Thanks GMan!
Dougster, thanks very much for the offer! (the highest ladder I have is a 5 ft. step-ladder, told ya, I'm askeerd of heights, lol)
After looking closely at the roof, I see where the edges of a majority of shingles are curling up. I'm fearing that I'll have to have the whole roof reshingled. I'm going to call a couple of the companies you kind people have suggested and go from there.

The good news is, Yoss, that it is not a terribly pricey job as home improvement goes. Especially if there is only one layer of shingles on it now, they can often shingle right over them. And you can ballpark the cost quoted pretty well -- figure the area of your roof and get a price on the shingles alone at Lowes. Double that as a starting point.
Good luck!

Thanks Snoop. I always thought roofing was one of the more expensive home improvements? Figuring about 5K - 6K for the average sized house.
I'm going to have it all stripped down to bare wood, new felt, boots for the vent pipes, etc.

Well, yeah, that'll cost more. But some roofs -- like mine -- will just get new shingles over the old and be good to go till next time. If ya can get a county building inspector you trust off alone, off the record, they can help steer ya away from trouble in your choice of contractor.
