Did anyone else watch parts 1 & 2 last night? I'm not particularly fond of that type of format, I think Roots was the last mini-series I've watched, but I tuned in last night and couldn't switch it off. I thought it was a very realistic portrayal, at least to my understanding, of that period of our history. I can't wait for part 3.

Loved the show. John Adams (Paul Giamatti), Abigale Adams (Laura Linney), and George Washington (David Morse) were great. Demonstrative when they had to and very understated at other times. The characters all exemplified what we had learned in school about them, as well as human foibles. It will be interesting as we see the good side we know so well, and the more flawed traits and interactions. That is what I enjoyed in the opening segment, the good and the bad, combining with a neat look into our history.

Thomas Jefferson's was distant and not as charismatic as the others. He stated his strengths were in his writing eloquence and not public speaking. It was interesting how they delicately handled the slavery issue, Adams struggled with the decision, trying to convince Jefferson prioritize it or face the fallout. They reluctantly agreed the colonies had a lot to worry about and the independence movement from England was critical. That was where they felt they needed to start. They struck a compromise that wrote our history. It will be intriguing to see the good, along with the more human ups and downs, or less saintly qualities as characters progress through history.

Franklin and Adams had a good rapport, strong ideas and conviction. It will be interesting where that leads. And then Washington, who seemed reserved but steady in his dedication. He came across as a tireless and quiet leader. I could appreciate what all the founding fathers brought to the table. David Morse has a good accent as Washington, he said he was trying to be reserved and measured.

Wasn't Abigale Adams (Laura Linney) a brave, intelligent and caring woman? We will have to see how she develops. The inoculation scene with her taking the lead was fascinating. It depicted some positive and stressful reminders of families and the time period. Speaking of ugly, that tar and feather scene reminded me how fractured those colonies were. Adams was horrified. Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney are great together. I want to see more of them. Looks like we will see some strong women, and of course the historic signers of the Declaration of Independence. Many are already looking more benevolent than others. The famous moments are there and also some glimpses into character.

Enjoyed the show, looking forward to more. I understand a couple of differences in sequencing, and deviations in the time line. You have to fit a lot into a TV version. Overall, I loved the presentation of events. I was fascinated by the character development and hope there is more to come. It is amazing what I know and do not know about these figures in history.

You should be a film critic ch. laugh.gif

As a long-time student of Jefferson I was glad that they depicted him the way they did. You wouldn't know it from his writings but he wasn't a skilled orator. It makes me think they're really concerned with presenting an accurate account of the founding fathers.

Agree, they may be taking a broader and more accurate look.
I like the insight into their human missteps, I am sure more will be illustrated. I can appreciate many of the founding fathers, the good stuff and less honorable moments. It was a unique time and place, no one knows how they would of responded to such adversity.

Heck, it is fun not having to read the book. laugh.gif
I have read the book, but you have to love a good video account. I rarely stick with a mini series or seek them out. I have the feeling I am going to like this one.
