SEDALIA, Mo. | Officials are trying to determine whether to file charges against a man who fatally shot his wife while trying to install a satellite television system in their home.
Patsy D. Long, 34, of Deepwater, was pronounced dead early Saturday evening after being shot in the chest with a .22-caliber handgun. Her husband, Ronald Long, fired the shot from the inside of their home after several unsuccessful efforts to punch a hole through the exterior wall using other means.
You've got to be kidding me.

Only a .22? Heck, a .45 would have made a better hole to string coax thru. Everyone knows that.

That's horrible!!!

It was also funnier than my initial response.

Seriously though... how sad can a story get?

My neighbor found a black snake on his kitchen counter a few years ago - he's afraid of snakes.
He got out his trusty shotgun and three shots later ...
1 - put a hole in his kitchen wall
2 - took out the coffee pot
3 - finally killed the snake with the last shot
All I have to say is "use the right tool for the job"

manslaughter [(man-slaw-tuhr)]
The unlawful killing of a person, without malice or premeditation. Involuntary manslaughter is accidental, such as running into someone with a car. Voluntary manslaughter is committed in the “heat of passion,” as in a spontaneous fight in which one person is killed by a strong blow.

It would seem mighty harsh to charge him, but they certainly could.

Stupid as this was to do. I bet you're right they probably will charge him. But yet let a drug dealer get caught red handed in a raid for crap sakes and this they let them walk. How pathetic is that? Caught with Cocaine, Crack, Pot, and meth. Yet it's ok. Oh and 1 of them served 8 years in New York for trafficking and 1 year here in Maryland and he get's a bond. The other one got a Meir criminal summons. Oh Man don't make me go there. I have to stop and won't read this post again. It's gonna get me into trouble for speaking the truth.

He shot from the inside of the home, if she was inside it had to be a ricochet unless he capped her and concocted the story. If she was outside and took it in the chest its still tragic.

I would think reckless endangerment or involuntary manslaughter would apply here where the husband acted recklessly and created a risk of physical injury to another person. The classic example they used in law school was firing a gun at a house, but not necessarily intending to hit a person. I suppose firing a gun OUT OF a house would suffice as well. Pretty reckless stuff - if he hadn't hit his wife, he could have easily it a passerby, neighbor, etc.
