Every month Rolling Stone Magazine has an article about music sales declining, especially CD sales. I personally haven't bought any new music in over a year. It seems like there hasn't been any good metal/hard rock music out recently. Can anyone recommend any metal music for me?

Here is what I like:
Mudvayne
Trivium
Stone Sour
Slipknot
Godsmack
Alice in Chains
Days of the New
Guns N Roses
Korn

Somewhat:
Marilyn Manson, Live, Linkin Park, Metallica, Coal Chamber, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Pantera.

I'm not interested in "rock" like Daughtry. Not interested in Emo like Avenged Sevenfold. biggrin.gif
hagopinion
I am right on with everything that you have said.

I would recommend Clutch, actually the older stuff is better and harder than the new. But I love the new as well. I am a big big big System of a Down, the new CD that Serj came out with is GREAT. Best songs are Empty Walls, Sky is Over, and The unthinking Majority.

Also fan of Hatebreed (Confide in No one), Social Distortion (Ball and Chain), Wolfmother (Witchcraft, Woman, Joker and Theif), and Drowning Pool (Bodies).

I am not a big fan of Rap but Eminem-Till I colapse and You don't know are pretty great and hard core.

Gotta go I will add more later.

I have a couple hundred gigs worth of music, mostly rock/metal. Here's some that you might like. (No I didn't type all of this, I exported a list of Rock and edited it down to what you might like.) Check out the bolded first since they're more similar to what you have listed. Check out Mushroomhead first. They are a lot like Slipknot and Mudvayne; they were actually the first band to pull off the masked thing. They're last album had a new singer and he never really grew on me though.

You said no Avenged Sevenfold, but their older stuff isn't really emo. It's more like Trivium. The Dreaming is "kinda" emo but the lead singer is Christopher Hall from Stabbing Westward, if you liked them.

10 Years, 30 Seconds to Mars, A Perfect Circle, After Forever, Alice In Chains, Alter Bridge, Android Lust, Apoptose, Arcana, Army of Anyone, Atreyu, Audioslave, Avenged Sevenfold, Bad Astronaut, Black Label Society, Blindside, Bloodsimple, Breaking Benjamin, Bullet for My Valentine, Calexico, Chevelle, Clutch, Chris Cornell, Cold, Curve, Dark Sanctuary, Dark Tranquility, Deftones, Delerium, Depeche Mode, Earshot, Epica, Evanescence, Evans Blue, Fear Factory, Fields of the Nephilim, Filter, Fluke, Flyleaf, Foo Fighters, Fuel, HIM, Hurt, Katatonia, Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes, Mad Season, Marilyn Manson, Megadeth, Metallica, Ministry, Moby, Mogwai, Moonspell, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Nightwish, NIN, Nirvana, P.O.D., Papa Roach, Paradise Lost, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Rammstein, Rasputina, Red, RHCP, Seether, Skold, Slipknot, Smashing Pumpkins, Smile Empty Soul, Snake River Conspiracy, Snow Patrol, Soundgarden, Spineshank, Stone Sour, Stone Temple Pilots, System of a Down, The Dreaming, The Gathering, The Verve, Tiamat, Tool, Type O Negative, Vangelis, Visions of Atlantis, Weezer, Within Temptation, Zeromancer

Other metal that you might want to try... Sirenia, Alastis, Dyecrest, Angra, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy. I could go on and on and on...

Another suggestion, check out slacker.com (it's free). Out of all the music/stations/services I've listened to online over the years, this is probably the best one all-around. They have a ton of stations but you can add bands to create your own custom stations too. Then, with the Artist Discovery option (that you can fine tune) you can find new music based on your listening preferences. It's kinda like Yahoo Launchcast but better and it kicks Pandora's azz. They even have a portable device now.

PM me if you wanna chat music. smile.gif

sadly, deftones and third eye blind are my fave bands ever.

I've been listening to stuff from here http://www.ipecac.com/artists.php

Basically everything I'm listening to is Mike Patton related. wacko.gif

The Melvins. I hate their name. It's so stupid.

Dub Trio - it's mainly instrumental, but it's usually fun.

I'm actually starting to like some of Fantomas. ph34r.gif

I thought of a few more metal bands at lunch.

Sepultura, Soulfly, Ill Nino

Ill Nino is growing on me, the latest album is the best. They're all Latino metal bands so the drums have some pretty cool Brazilian-type beats.

Ok then! I leave the boards for one day and I come back and have 100 songs to listen to here is my commentary as I was listening.

Otep-Very nice

Wolfmother-too high pitched and soft but not bad, has an 80s feel

Lamb of God-Sweet guitar, but I don't know if I can get into monotone glutteral screaming-I'll check it out at FYE when I have some money.

Drist-Reminds me of Avenged Sevenfold but its definitely good ol rock n roll. Not bad if less singy.

Ministry-I need to hear more songs but good so far.

Hemlock-Can't do the OUGH UHH OOOGH UGH UGH screaming even though its got singing. May check out at FYE if they have a preview for it.

Scar Symmetry-Can you say Satan? Too deep smile.gif

Devil Driver-Roadrunner! No wonder this guy sounds familiar, very familiar, roadrunner united was a good cd

Cavalera Conspiracy-Max Cavalera seriously? I'll have to tell my man about that he will be happy.

Killswitch-God I wish there was NO singing because the SINGing is...bad. But screaming is AWESOME. Please...stop...singing...

The Dillinger Escape Plan-Noisy, different, Snot-like. Nice.

The Black Dahlia Murder-Saw them at ozzfest, too deep for me biggrin.gif

Hurt-Just ok. It reminds me of something...that voice is so familiar-tool-deftones-days of the new-black crowes-I don't know-too slow though it's making me sad...

10 Years-Saw at Mudvayne/Korn show-they are awesome but make me sad

Atreyu-Saw at ozzfest, don't like lead singer, but drummer is a good singer-he should form a band.

Bloodsimple-Poor guy his voice isn't going to last long, sounds like Chimera, but faster. The one song I listened to was good, but I need more.

I LOVE THAT FLEA MARKET THING! I will get to some more later I need a break...

I've been out of the music obsession for a couple years now... must be that "old" age, but I've always liked the more alternative/punk music more than metal.

The only bands that you *might* like (if you can go softer) that I can think of are:
Rise Against- sound somewhat like Anti-Flag, not as political
Strike Anywhere- same type of sound but louder

...further from your taste, but maybe relevant?
Rancid- early punk
Dropkick Murphys- Irish punk

Where do you guys and gals listen/find music? I still don't have an iPod, but I listen through Pandora.com at work.

Biggins, see my post on the previous page. I've found Slacker to be much better than Pandora with its Artist Discovery options/fine tuning. I don't like the algorithm that Pandora uses to recommend music, which is basically comparing inherent attributes of songs. I'm not sure how Slacker's algorithm works, all I know is that it's a heck of a lot better and the service in general has more features.

As far as getting music instead of just listening to it, PM me.

I prefer alternative/punk too, and I also listen to Pandora.com. Other sources of new music are Sirius (I like the Left of Center and Alt Nation channels) and KEXP.org (a community public radio station run by the University of Washington that you can stream live or they have a stream archive--lots of new alternative music).

i like all the afrometioned... dropkick, Dk's , pistols, clash, ramones, blink, offspring, harvey danger, dynamite hack, opm, etc... but none of that is newer...

newer i must say, i like coheed and cambria, modest mouse, etc.

i find most of my music actually through "local" bands... and by that i mean dc/balitimore... you'd be amazed how many bands have "made it big" that were playing at like, jaxx and the ottobar not so long ago. always worth a check out.

Ok, I may catch some heat for this, but...

I'm not a Sid Vicious fan.

He really wasn't that great of a bassist. Sure, he was rebellious, but he didn't do it to be cool, he was just an immature a$$hole. He spit on people in public, he cursed at them, he tried to fight them, and he acted like a child. He was also a heroin addict, although one of my favorite artists, Layne Staley, was a heroin addict as well, so I can't really say much about that.

I think the Sex Pistols are cool, but Sid Vicious wasted his life and didn't contribute much other than having a cool stage name. John Ritchie was his real name. Not nearly as catchy as Sid Vicious.

Maybe someone that knows more about him could shed some light on what makes him so cool to some people other than the rebellious attitude. That's pretty much standard in rock stars.

I think it's more because of his rebellious attitude. And his music is tight. The media and circus that surrounded him, his relationship with Nancy and the band is a mind boggeling story... There are so many bands over the years who have tried, unsuccessfully, to pull off what he did naturally. Dude was just insane...

Those first two videos are post-Sid Vicious...

I've seen videos and a documentary on A&E, the whole relationship with Nancy and the band IS intriguing. I just never really got what made him such an icon.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one... I feel the same way about Lennon - I mean, the music is O.K. and I get they were the sensation they were when they came across the water, but even now - I just don't get that.
Ithlilian
I don't quite understand what "Punk" is. I didn't like the sex pistols. I bought Mindless Self Indulgence to hear the song well I can't say it on here, but I don't like the CD, just that one song. Alternative I thought was 90s flannel things, if so, I like that, list some of those for me. Thank you everyone for being so helpful biggrin.gif
hagopinion
Completely different style of music but lovin Jack Johnson and this song from Jason Mraz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A
similar to Jack's style.

Also like Drop Kick Murphy
Ithlilian
Well I don't want to cause problems. Why is mushroomhead like slipknot? I get that there are a lot of instruments/people, but slipknot singing=good, screaming=good, mushroomhead screaming=good, singing=sad.gif and it's much softer. But, I like the songs I've heard from them. Oh I forgot the mask thing, but meh. I wouldn't say slipknot is copying with the masks/paint, Kiss did that long long ago.

I love Du Hast from Rammstein but the rest of it is too dance/industrial I think.
Ithlilian
Hey, sorry to keep talking but I'd love to hear a good female metal band. Kittie is ok, Otep is chicks, something else is, Arch Enemy? I listened to Lacuna Coil, if they weren't so foreign I'd like it better, but I have their newest CD. Flyleaf sounds like Avril Lavigne and that is NOT metal. NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT, either is Paramore. Nightwish sounds foreign too, anyone have any other female metal for me? ph34r.gif

*Edit: after looking at all of the bands Coma put on that one post, I see a lot of females, none of them are hard enough for me. I want a good voice with a metal background c'mon ladies!*
coma
Hmm, yeah, most of the metal bands I know of with women fronting them are more like symphonic metal like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, After Forever. That's what makes Kittie so unique.

Flyleaf isn't metal, but they're rock... bleh, don't compare them to Avril! That's insulting!

Mushroomhead always reminded me more of Static X musically than Slipknot (except for the masks).

Some of the later Rammstein albums are more metal and less dance/industrial. Check out the album Rosenrot. Fuerer & Wasser (fire and water) is probably my favorite song on that album. (I speak some German, so... its nice to know what they're saying.) Anyway, this album is more metal than anything.

Might want to check out this list. You might find something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_femal...y_metal_singers
Heather
Who wants to hear women sing in a metal band? Ick.
Ithlilian

It would mix good singing with good screaming. Like Trivium but female. That slash up there is me raising my hand (ffxi online notation). Girls just can't rock as hard as guys, I understand. They are either all scream or all sing, no mix.
coma
