I got back from the gym before dinner, and tonight was the first time I've ever tried out a rowing machine (not normal seated rows) for 20 minutes on the highest setting. I am legitimately worn out for the first time in a LONG time. Does anyone else do any rowing (real or machine) during your workouts?

I entered this "indoor triathlon" in two weeks where I have to do "2500m" on this rowing machine, "2 miles" on a stationary bike, and "1.5 miles" on a treadmill. I think the rowing part will be my toughest part and wear me out before I get to the other two legs.

OMG, I am tired too just reading about it. Good Luck and much success on your "indoor triathlon".
Enjoy and hope you reap the health benefits too.

I'd never heard of an indoor triathalon. Since I do 90% of my cardio stuff indoors (running outside tears up my knees/lower back), it would be neat to try one. You're right though, that rowing part would probably destroy me.

It's at my employer's gym... I cannot swim (I can NOT drown though) which is why I've never entered a "normal" triathlon. My gym is run by a contractor company (Lifebridge Health?) that is really great at having promotions and keeping people interested in going to the gym. They give away neat little prizes all the time like they're candy.

My back is killing me today, so I probably should have started doing this sooner. The 5k season is here now, so I guess this rowing will just be further training for all the upcoming 5k's. I'm also moving again soon to a place where I will be walking to work, literally. It should definitely help cut down on my gasoline usage and keep me in shape even more.

Anywho, what are some other exercises you guys have been using lately to keep in shape?

I would truely love to be able to use the rowers. Thats a full body workout and something I want to work my way up to. I'm too big right now and my kness do not let me get down that far yet. I do cardio 5 days a week. I'm up to 25mins. It's broken down into 15mins on the recline bike, where I do 3.5 miles and then 10mins on the eliptical, where I do .25 mile. Then I do strength training 5 days a week also. I switch off between upper and lower. The whole workout, depending on how enthustiactic I do it, ranges from 7 miles to 8.2 miles per day.

My workout is 3 or 4 miles (mood depending) on the treadmill and 30-45 on an elliptical machine 4x a week. I do 2 days a week of light weights at the end of my cardio. Nothing fancy, just the poser muscles like arms and chest.

*fingers crossed* The weather looks like it'll allow my once a week tennis play to start up again.
BMIC
Heavy weight training on a two-on one-off split. Generic Cardio (usually recumbent bike but I wish I had an elliptical at home to change it up) 30-60 mins a day on the "off" days, 10 mins on weight training days as a warmup. I would run/jog but the screw in my foot hurts too much and bicycling and elliptical are gentler. Rowing is cool for some variety but I've got huge lats as it is.

When I'm not too busy playing computer games that is.

It just so happens that I do the same workout, 3 reps a day! biggrin.gif
I also try to squeeze in a Pilates workout but the only chance I have is at the end of the day & I'm usually too tired by then!

I personally like to mix my cardio with weight training...

Run out the house to go to store. Shop. Load up car. Lug groceries in the house - put away - this goes up stairs, this downstairs, oh - wait - I forgot to take this back downstairs. Time to make dinner. Trash can full. My God, when was the last time this was emptied? Lug outside to garbage. Sh!t! I forgot I had that on the stove... Run back in house. Everyone sit, dinner is ready. Up from the table 15 times to get drinks, more napkins, second & third servings (well, at least they like tonight's menu!). Eat half of what is on plate becuase now it's cold. Wash up from dinner, left something in car, back outside to retrieve. Time for laundry. Carry appropriate baskets upstairs. Time for baths, lift youngest in & out of tub. Fold clothes, hang clothes, go back downstairs for third load. Time for bed - carry youngest to bed. Go around house to pick up everything that everyone has left in all the wrong places... Put in the right places... O.K. and now you want me to excersise???? blink.gif

I finished the indoor triathlon last Thursday!!! I didn't quite finish where I had hoped, but it took me just over 28 minutes to "row" 2500m, "bike" 2 miles, and run 1.5 miles. I drastically improved my rowing time to just under 11 minutes, but I was disappointed about how tired I was for the running portion. The winners finished in just under 23 minutes.

Now I guess I need to learn how to swim so I can do an actual triathlon... or I'll just stick to the usual 5k runs that are coming up this spring/summer/fall.

Congrats on the finish! That's a great accomplishment!

I miss *real* exercise. sad.gif My pregnancy has put me in the "walker" category... and it's really more of a ambling waddle than a walk. I can't wait to get back to running and lifting.
WVDragonlady
well I think thats a great time biggins! way to go! I wouldn't have made it thru the rowing! laugh.gif laugh.gif
