Richardson's Retsaurant on Dual Highway seems okay at best. The food is decent. I go there for the convenience. The weekend buffets are pretty good, but the optimal times to go are from about 11:00am to about 1:30pm. After that, the food at the buffet is dry and filmy. Overall, it's average to above average eating.
What drives me crazy about Richardson's is the waiting staff. There's one waitress, Pam, who is absolutely brilliant. After her, it's all downhill. It seems the longer they've been there, the worse they are. Most of them seem to have a "me against the world" attitiude to waiting. I don't understand why it has to be like that. All we want to do is sit down for an enjoyable meal, not hear all about why a waitress hates her job, while all we want is to have our glass refilled.

Having lived here all my life, it is kind of sad to see Richardson's the way that it has become. It used to be one of "the places" for mom and pop home cooking. Places like Richardson's, The Antrim House, and Mountaingate just can't seem to compete anymore with the new cahin restaurants. There were plans to finish renovating Richardson's like the back half was done, not sure what ever happend to that. They included a new entrance, updated bar, and a really nice mural with scenes from around WashCo. Hopefully they will get there stuff together and be a good place to eat again.

I went to Richardson's once a long time ago just to see what it was like. Not a good thing when your sign is the best part of your restaurant.

Richardsons, Antrim House and MountainGate can't compete because their food is lousy. I don't often eat at chains, but I don't eat at those places, either (unless I'm dining with someone who wants to go there). The buffets gross me out, plus there's always some dried food remnant on my dish/fork/glass.
If there was a really good homestyle restaurant--hand-pattied crabcakes, REAL mashed potatoes, hand-breaded fried fish sandwiches instead of a frozen fish square--I'd eat there regularly. But as soon as I discover that the place uses instant mashed potatoes, I won't choose to eat there. My grandma used real potatoes, not potato flakes.

I would have to agree. Richardson's SUCKS. Service is rediculous, food is always hard, over cooked, over sun lamped, just plain ole gross. I decided to go there for breakfast on Sunday. I will not be back. They did not fill up anything that ran out (8:45am) so breakfast was not over, the food taste like it had been there all night, and if you want your ticket you have to go look for the damn server. While I was there they actually had vegtable soup sitting. I guess they were waiting until 10:30 or so before they turned the heat lamp on to warm it up for the lunch crowd. Again it was 8:45am. I live close by and it is sad that the Mexican place next door does twice the business and that place should be torn down.

We've only eaten at Richardson's once, shortly after we moved to this area ten years ago. We don't remember the food. However, we frequently pass by Richardson's on Saturday evenings. One notable observation that we have made is that before the smoking ban went into effect, their parking lot was generally overflowing. Since the ban, the lot is about half full. We guess that the food doesn't taste as good without cigarettes as it did with.

HH & I went there one time. The place was dank and dreary, and the food was about the same. We both decided that we could not return. The service matched the food, and the plates and utensils appeared to have baked on glop on them.
My question--is it closing? Thankfully the Red Horse closed--it was another over-rated dump.

OMG, LOL......We found hardened glump on our utensils. And when we explored the buffet, it was running low. No sight of staff. There was lone meat or whatever offerings sitting in tepid liquid. A film was hardening on the veges.
The sign is cool, a couple of lights are flickering and it now says, Richard. Oh well, we really wanted to enjoy as a neighbor had recommended it. They had not been in awhile.

Don't be dissin' my Red Horse

Maybe overrated but they had absolutely the best Surf and Turf (filet mignon and lobster tail) for miles around.
Richardson's used to be the teen hang out, the place to see and be seen. I spent many a Friday and Saturday night there in the late Sixties and early Seventies. Heck, that was back when they still had car hops. I haven't been to Richardson's in about 8 years; I just had to go in and get a Big Richie(?) their signature hamburger. It sucked. And the french fries as well. I remember everything in the place having this greasy coating on it. Like the furniture hadn't actually been washed in decades (probably since my teen years). I glanced over at the buffet, and everything on it looked like it had been sitting there for weeks. I decided then that I would never go back.
The place has definitely gone downhill, and for sure outlived its life.

Thank you Yoss. I'm glad you said that about the Red Horse. The one in Frederick we found much better but still you can't beat their surf and turf.

I haven't been to Richardson's in YEARS... I do remember they had the best french onion soup ever - but again, that was like, 30 years ago! Sounds like I am glad that I haven't been there in so long! Guess I'll just have my memories of days gone!

We always seemed to have our bowling banquets there. So every yeasr I'd go and the food was always the same old nasty stuff. They had stewed apples one time and had to take them back. Seems the cook used salt instead of sugar. In the early days it was a good restaurant but now it taste like it goes from the freezer to the microwave to the steam table. YUCK!

Wasn't there a show where they closed restaurants and revamped them and then reopened them? Could we apply to put Richardson's on this list??

Yeah Im pretty sure Chef Ramsey of Hells Kitchen would do the restaurant makeovers. I have not done Richardsons in years. Im thinking its one of many restaurants in the area that utilize work release inmates to "prepare" the offerings. Usually opening cans and stirring. pleh....

Chances are that the only thing that would stay the same is the building, and he'd probably tear that down too. And, I don't think you'd ever see Gordon Ramsey eat at a buffet. That guy is a riot.

Actually, they do (or did recently), but so does Nick's Airport Inn (which I consider a high-priced version of Richardson's but without the "buffet").
