Rey Azteca.... a nice little Mexican restaurant in the Weiss Shopping Center on Northern Blvd...
It took over from the place where you told them how to make you food..
This place is sit down service with a fixed menu.... and the food is fantastic and reasonably priced.
I have been there twice now and will return...
Last time was with my wife and daughter...
Start you off with the obligatory basket of taco chips and salsa ... chips are thin and home made and warm... salsa is just right for a family.. not too spicy or heavy on the coriander...
We started with the nachos with beef which my daughter loves anywhere and it was a nice size serving and very good
My wife has the Chimichanga platter and said it was fantastic
My daughter opted for tacos and loved them, but said she is having the nachos with beef for dinner next time... they do have a decent kids menu.
I had one of their 2 Special Combos (I forgot what it is called), it came with an enchilada, tamale, taco, chile rellenos, rice, beans and a chalupa... I could barely finish it and they were all absolutely fantastic...
The taco beef is not highly spiced but good.... perfect for kids....
The chile rellenos were some of the best I have ever had... just a nice warm afterburn from the poblamo pepper
The tamale was definitely a winner as was the enchilada...
We all had soft drinks, but no dessert...
I believe dinner ended up costing about $30-35 which was more than fair considering the amount of food we had... and the quality...
The place ain't fancy, just some tables and pictures on the wall... does not look like much and will probably not impress a date....
But the food is what you are going for... so give it a visit...

I agree! We ate there 2x so far and it is the closest we have come to true San Antonio Mexican food we have gotten since moving here in 1999.

Ok... this totally made me hungry for Mexican food. Pregnant woman cravings. LOL I am going to have to check out this place.
One question: Do they serve alcohol? (Not that I'll be drinking any... but some of my dining companions might want a beer.)

I do like their food. I tried it a few weeks ago. Better than El Paso for sure.

Thanks Griz, we took your suggestion, and gave it a try.
We ate there last night. We could not finish, maybe it was the chips and salsa. My hubby had a dinner combo, it came with an enchilada, tamale, & taco. Enjoyed the Mexican food, it was reasonably priced, the waiter was a sweet fellow. Very basic decor and very casual.

Had lunch there the other day, based on recommendations here.
Thought it pretty much the same as the other Mexican places around here... better than El Paso, about the same as El Ranchero, but basically the same kind of food. Overall, the place seemed clean and the service was good... a big plus.
We weren't big fans of the salsa. I thought it could use some more cilantro or something. It just tasted like watery tomatoes to me.
Prices were extremely reasonable. For a quick Mexican lunch, I'd say this place would probably get my vote over all the others... mostly because of cleanliness. (Did you check out those bathrooms?)
