Well, we have 16 candidates. Anybody know anything about these newcomers? Think they can do better than the current board? I think I know one of them, but I would need to see a picture to comfirm it. If it is him, I won't be voting for him, but until I know for sure, I won't post any slanderous comments!!

Probably the same reason I am not--I am not affiliated with a party, and it was a rather interesting process to get onto the ballot--maybe next time..

How come you can't run as an Independant? How come our school board members have to be affiliated with a political party?

Probably for the same reason that you can't vote for who you want because they give you a democratic ticket to use. It's always: Either Or. Never a third choice.

Thats not true. You can write in a vote for who ever you want. Thats why Donald duck got 100 some votes for clerk of the court in Winchester. Independants don't need a party nod to be on a ballot either.

Maybe when I'm older and have more life experience I would have more credibility. However, I doubt many people would think an "under 30 mother of a grade schooler" has the credentials to lead the education of 18,000 children. Especially, since I have no related background. Aviation and Pharmacy don't exactly have much in common with ed!

And exactly how does the primary work if you aren't a Rep or Dem? Haven't had to deal with that yet.

Very little--I kept trying to get information a month before the deadline and by the time I found info in the paper it was a week from he double toothpick around here..my husband's grandmother passed away and so I was doing triple duty for 2 weeks--mom,worker bee,gs leader, and of course--christmas present shopper...I confess by the time the deadline was near & the fabulous herald mail gave instructions, I was unable to do much...but next time I will start bothering them much earlier--and perhaps I will start by looking into all the rules to apply---I am very happy we have so many candidates...

I tried to volunteer to help out for the childrens center too-but they were not terribly encouraging either...at least they handed me an application..which I have almost completed...and then they will 'review' and 'evaluate' and call if they want to interview me...
