Picked up my Xbox 360 copy today and played it a bit, and I know SMan is getting it. Anyone else?
SMan
Grr. Haven't even had a chance to go pick mine up yet. One of my bro-in-laws got his at a midnight store opening last night.
Ithlilian
It's in the mail from gamefly.
Wrangler3
ordered it and cancelled it. have other things more important right now. sad.gif
SMan
Blasphemy!

So I was playing it yesterday, started off with the single player and decided to try the multiplayer.

I was mostly playing Turfwars and I was having a blast. I had my headset on so I could hear my teammates and there was no trash talking at all, just people laughing and having fun. I have to admit that there were several times I was laughing out loud so hard because it was so fun. I haven't had this much fun on Xbox Live in a LONG TIME.

Ithilian and Wrangler, please add me to your friends list.. my handle is athensflame.

I will add you but I havent played Live online yet, a Live virgin if you will. LOL If you are a serious gamer I ain't one you want on your team. My g/f's son wants me to play online with him but they are way too serious about gaming. I am Wrangler3RCR on live.
SMan
Not to turn this into a fanboy debate, but I have both systems, the PS3 and 360. The built-in Blu Ray and whisper quiet operation (the 360 sounds like a jet taking off!) are the only advantages the PS3 has going for it in my book. The graphics are identical, though theoretically the PS3 is supposed to be capable of better things down the road, and the free online with the PSNetwork is worth exactly what you pay for it. It's painful to use after using Xbox Live. Except for physical appearance, everything about the 360 experience is more polished, refined, and usable. The 360 controller is, hands down, the best console controller I've ever picked up, including Sony's Dual Shock that I used to think was the gold standard.

I'll give Sony this, the PS3 is easily the best BluRay disc player on the market now and for the foreseeable future. My only beef with it as a BD player is they chose to make their proprietary remote Bluetooth instead of the standard IR, which means you can't control the PS3 with a universal remote.

Anyways, back on topic. I finally picked up my GTA4, but still haven't played it yet.

Yeah I know what ftw means... I've been online for a long time!

The 360 vs. PS3 debate rages on in forums across the web but right now I personally don't see the advantages of the PS3. There's no comparison between XBL and PS Network right now; Sony has a lot of catching up to do on that front. The Xbox is easier to develop games for than the PS3, so developers can do more with the system. Microsoft has resolved the loudness issues with earlier systems, and I still haven't had any problems with mine (knock on wood) but I'm used to listening to the cooling system in my PC, so its no big deal to me and I don't even hear it with the volume up anyway. Then there's the whole Cell processor debate, which can go one way or the other.

Don't get me wrong, I think the PS3 is a great system, I sure wouldn't mind having one, but I just think that right now the 360 is better. As questionable as MS has been in the past, they sure did build a hell of a nice game system... they surprised the heck out of me, a PS1 and PS2 owner.

Anyways, yeah, GTA4. Have fun! I've been enjoying single and multiplayer. I think my favorite multiplayer match is Turf Wars since it reminds me so much of UT Domination/Onslaught, Team Fortress, and a few others (from an objectives point of view).
Ithlilian
GTA: I like the TV channels right off the top on the game. I was under the impression you got to create your own character, I guess not.

About the xbox thing, I think they break too often, and I don't like any of the exclusive games on the system. I'd rather have Final Fantasy whatever number on ps3, which is why I got one biggrin.gif Of all the new systems it would have more games that I will like.

I've never done the online thing. I don't like the headsets and talking to people I can't see. I always felt weird using the computer/internet phone we had at one point. I didn't like talking to my monitor and having a voice come back out of it.
coma
Well, now that you mention it, there are two distinct advantages that the PS3 has over Xbox: Final Fantasy and God of War franchises.
Ithlilian
Woot!

I didn't like Heavenly Sword that much, just meh. Assassins Creed was highly annoying, and game full of WALKING and not bumping into people ><
But yes, Final Fantasy, yes please.

I just finished Crisis Core <3 <3 <3

Too bad I got rid of my FF7 at some point sad.gif Now it costs $80 at the cheapest on the net.
SMan
If Final Fantasy type games are your thing, then you're right, the 360 isn't for you. They've released a couple similar style games in the last year. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey come to mind, but it aint much.

About the online play, I don't play online that much, and when I do, it's almost exclusively with the peeps on my friends list. What I do use the Live service for is the ultra simple downloading of demos, videos, add-on content for games, and sometimes HD movies/tv shows. I guess my point is the service is much more than just anonymous fragging.
SMan
For you 360 guys out there, Amazon has 13 month Live subscription cards for $39.99, but probably not for long. That's a great deal and you can use them to renew several years in advance, if you wanted. You don't have to wait until you're about to expire. I got 2 of these cards for Christmas, so I'm good for a while.

Isn’t GTA4 the game where you can buy a hooker, ummm…do your thing with her, and then beat her to death with a baseball bat? blink.gif
coma
I'm not sure, I haven't gotten that far in yet, but I did get a lap dance at one of the strip gentleman's clubs. I suppose I could have beaten her up or shot her, and taken my $50 back. She never told me it would cost $50! mad.gif There was a mini-game in GTA: San Andreas called Hot Coffee that you may be thinking of.

Ith, too bad you didn't mention FF7 before. I just traded my copy away for COD4.
Ithlilian
That's unfortunate. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
SMan
Ithilian - did you get one of the PS3 models with backwards compatibility? I just got the 40GB version with no BC ability. I've long since traded all my PS2 games and I can't keep current on all the current gen's good games, let alone mess with older PS2 games.
Ithlilian
I got the cheap one, without the BC. 40gig. I still have my ps2 though, there are still many games I like on there, and some classics for ps1 I'd like to play/replay. I've never played ff7. They have individual disks on ebay but I am never able to win ebay auctions sad.gif
Wrangler3
A day late an a few dollars short. I got a copy. I might be on later or tomorrow with it but I dunno. Definitley sometime this week.
Wrangler3
Well RIP original GTA IV game. Although your life was short you still provided me a few hours of fun....

Anyone know how to remove sratches from a DVD??? My girlfriend was sweeping and knocked over my 360 and horrid noise followed.... Never seen a disk with those kinda marks it in. LOL I gues I will be buying another copy. sad.gif

There are those CD buffers that work, but it sounds like your DVD may be damaged beyond repair.

Ithilian, you can try to get a copy at gametz.com or goozex.com. I use both services to trade games.
SMan
Oh, no, Wrangler. sad.gif There's no fixing those scratches that come from moving the 360 with a disc spinning.
Wrangler3
I bought another copy.

I just hope it didn't screw the laser or hard drive in the 360. The system seemed to work but I actually haven't use it yet.
SMan
Your 360 will be ok. Here's a YouTube vid to remind you of your traumatic event. You can even hear the grinding when the guy flips the system.
Wrangler3
Yup thats the sound but I was playing when the system was knocked over so the scratch goes in a nice swirl across the entire disc. LOL
Ithlilian
See I'm telling you they break easily! People on final fantasy constantly say they had to send their xbox to get fixed, then next week they have to send it again. And why should you have to pay to play games on the internet, maybe I'm just not understanding the specialness of xbox live.
SMan
Try turning your PC or PS3 on it's side with a DVD spinning and report back with the results. wink.gif tongue.gif

You'd have to try it yourself to see the specialness. Like I said, I own them both, and just recently bought my first PS3 game (Gran Turismo 5 Prologue) which I've played a grand total of once. It's like those stickers I see on Jeeps sometimes. "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".
Ithlilian
Grand turismo 5 prologue was horrible.

My dog knocked my ps2 off a table while I was playing kingdom hearts and the cd got stuck in side, my dad had to operate on it to get it out. Didn't scratch the disk or anything though.
SMan
I know. I had such high hopes for it. And now I feel like a sucker for paying Sony $40 for a large demo of the real GT5.
Ithlilian
I don't like that there are only a few tracks, and you can't customize your setup. No fun. I should have known it was a bad game when blockbuster had copies in after the first week of release.

I'm still looking forward to The Force Unleashed and Soul Caliber. I'm also interested in the Bourne game coming out this year. My man is dying to play Metal Gear Solid, and it looks pretty interesting, can't wait to watch it. Big let down on GT though.
Wrangler3
Anyone interested in trading Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for GTA 4 for the 360? LOL Hell I'll give ya the free month of live maybe even 2 months.
SMan
I already have GTA. You have anything else on the trading block for Vegas 2?
Wrangler3

Your never on lol

I go in spurts. Problem is that its hard for me to split time between Xbox and PC games. I play Lord of the Rings Online and am beta testing Warhammer.
