Been looking for some stuff for the yard, but have only been successful in one endeavor so far. I'm also looking for a weeping Japanese maple, but couldn't find anything I liked at Oswald's, Lovell's, or Snavely's, so I'm hoping some of you folks know some other good places. I did find one Japanese Maple that I liked at Snavely's, but it was $400 and too big but had the perfect shape that I am looking for. It was an Inaba Shidare (looks like a bonzai tree).

Thanks!

Don't know if it is too far for you or if they have what you're looking for, but I always go to Welltown Nursery on Welltown Road in Martinsburg first. Very knowledgeable owners and very helpful. If they don't have what you want, they can usually find it.

I got some Japaneese Red Maples at Lowes years back -- good price, good plant, but only gallon size I think.

Greensburg on Va. Ave. has reasonable prices on plants but not sure if they have trees.

THere is also a place on Rt 11 just before Rt 16 in Greencastle you could call.

It's called Phillips Seeds. They have trees. Here's the number. 717-597-1314

biggrin.gif Phillips Seeds, good place, we had good luck last year. greencastle has some nice alternatives, still rural enough I guess. The prices and selection seems broader out there. I also have heard good things about the Martinsburg site Paperpusher suggested.

I'll check out those two places.

Yesterday I went to this place out on 65 right before the Ag Center called Sunny Gardens (or something like that) that my Dad told me about; he's got really good taste so I figured I'd check it out. It's Mennonite-run and they had a pretty large selection and prices were REALLY good. I bought a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick for half the price they were at Snavely's and its twice as big and has better foliage. All of the other prices were good and everything looked like it was in nice condition. The guy that helped me (Bob) was very knowledgeable and helpful. Still didn't find the Japanese Maple I'm looking for. They had one that was almost perfect, but it was part of their property and not for sale.

Here's a pic of how I'm going to cut mine.

Coma, the Mennonite-run place on Rt. 65 was the one I was about to recommend. I was there yesterday too! It's so big that it would've been unlikely that I'd have run into you even if we WERE there at the same time. Yep, it's an awesome place and the people are so nice. My new favorite nursery! We'd been looking all over for ornamental grasses but had little luck at Home Depot, Lowe's, or Wal-Mart. New Life Garden Center on Rt. 68 had a few smaller ones, but no medium-sized ones. But we found a wide selection at the place on Rt. 65 and left with Japanese Blood Grass, which looks really unique and pretty.

Snavely's has beautiful plants but they're usually the most expensive place around; they've always been my go-to nursery for unusual things. Now that I know the Rt.65 place has such a wide selection, though, I probably won't need to venture out that way.

I have to say coma, that the tree you want looks like a Ficus to me. Guess it looks better in person instead of a pic.

The ficus looks similar but is a tree; this is actually just a shrub that gets to about 10'-12' tall and wide, though some people cut them to look like small trees. The foliage on the two is a bit different as well.

Coma, that tree would look perfect growing on a hill with a "hobbit house" built into it. wink.gif

Don't I know it!

By the way, I went to Phillips in Greencastle this evening and found what I was looking for. I'm going to go back up there tomorrow with my Dad and pick something out to bring home. Thanks for the recommendation folks! I'll try to get down to Martinsburg this weekend.

Have you tried LURGANS Nursery @ exit 21 off I 81 N ? My wife says they have everything.
