For all of you health freaks and work out freaks that take supplements. What do you take and where do you get them? I have noticed that many websites sell supplements much much cheaper than the so called health stores (GNC, Vitamin world, ect). Wondering where the cheapest deals are.
SMan
I just use the GNC website and wait for sales. I take glucosamine and vitamin C. I usually grab a couple big bottles when they have a buy 1, get 2nd free (or half off).

I work with some guys that take all Cell Tech stuff. I'll ask them where they buy it.
WVDragonlady
I take the Glucosomine/Chondroiton and Fish Oil ( bleck) I get mine in huge bottles "Members Mark" at Sam's Club. They have the same ingredients at the same amount as the name brands. They have a pretty large selection of them and vitamins. At least they did. they change that store around so much sometimes I wonder who the h#!! is in charge over there.

I have to be careful of supplements because some could interact with my meds.

Dr. Oz says that you only need a good multi-vitamin.

I'm considering getting a juicer machine. They look so good and tasty on the commercials biggrin.gif

I have a question for this type of topic. I've always had an issue with gaining weight. I eat like a horse, sorry folks, but I just can't gain weight. I was put on a weight gain shake thing several year's ago did it for 4 month's at the cost of $40??? something per gallon, AND I LOST WEIGHT!!!!! Been checked 12 way's around they found nothing. What can I get to help me gain weight, I'm 43 and finally got up to 148 lbs. I hate it, as well as a lot of folks that have weight issues. I'm not picking I would seriously like to know what to get.
Ithlilian
I took fish oil for awhile until white stuff started growing inside them. So now I'm trying Salmon oil. I also take Tri-phala or something like that, it's crushed up fruit in a pill for fiber, also, flaxseed oil.

The oils are for my high cholesterol, yes I have high cholesterol at 21. Oh, I'm 22 now.

Dodgeman......I used to have those probs. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I could eat 11,000 or 12,000 calories A DAY, seriously, and never gain a pond. In fact, if I didn't, I had serious problems keeping my weight ABOVE 110 lbs. And I am 5'7". After IV's for iron and other types of malnutrition (not much of what I ate was being digested) and transfusions, I have found that simply having a balenced diet is the best way. If you take one or two B vitamins, you could easily throw off your needs for the rest of them, and end up with malnutrition that way. And most supplements give you WAY more vitamin C than you actually need in a day. Just eat a balenced diet.

Thanks SS. I was told just wait until you hit your 40's you'll put on the weight. Bunch of lier's.

Wrangler, I'm sorry and I feel the love ok. Believe me I hate it as well. You have no idea what it's like for me to go buy cloth's. Most of the times I can find cloth's in the boy's section that fit me. I've tried and tried and eating like a hog I loose weight. 3 weeks ago I went to the Dr's. I weight in at 150 lbs. Last night while going out to the patio out back I missed a step tripped and lost balance and fell smashing my face on the concrete. 6 stitches broken glasses and badly bruised shoulder, I got Ticked off at the E.R. because I now weight 146 I freakin lost and I eat like crazy. I'm just giving up. I have 1 brother that's in his 50's and he too has the same problem. The upside to him is that I weight more then he does.

Dodge Man - You may just have fewer muscle and fat cells than the average person. You need to eat lots of carbohydrates, protein and get into a weight training regimen; weight training helps generate new muscle cells. Go with lower reps and higher weight -- that builds bulk, whereas higher reps and lower weight adds definition.

I used to play lacrosse with a guy in college that had the same problem. We always thought it was just a high metabolism, but eventually he took a trip to the doctor and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Hopefully that's not the case, but you may want to see a doctor just to be sure.

www.massnutrition.com

This seems like a good website for just about anything that you want and the prices are better than most that I have checked out.

I don't see the need for general vitamins, don't we get all the A, B, and C we need if we eat correctly?

I also don't like that none of the supplements are tested by the FDA. How do we know that eating fish oil pills will help cholesterol? I don't see a need for drinking 8 glasses of water a day either. I remember reading an article recently that said that is not necessary, and is actually not good for you, but water is certainly better than soda or sugary juice.

Speaking of sugar-I looked at an apple juice bottle (100% juice) and it had about 30g of sugar per serving! Grape and orange juices were similar. Fruit is sugary!

How do we know what the FedDA approved is correct to start with???? Thats right we don't. They have take so much off the market after they approved it; it doesn't matter. Drugs they approve kill people. Drug that people have been taken for centuries help people but they wont be aproved. You must be a democrat. The democrats always thing that can help, when they can't. VOTE LIBERTARIAN!!!!!

Believe me......you DON'T want that problem. My skin was white, yet still had an olive "look" to it. My hair and eyes were still dark, but looked "wrong" in a Gothic sort of way, because I was so pale. And then there was my shape........I didn't have one. Now....I don't get to stay skinny for free anymore, and I have to ride my bike and work out just like everyone else. And to make matters more annoying, my new hubby likes HEAVIER women!!! huh.gif I still need to be able to outrun him after I surprise him with the garden hose, though; and outswim him at the pool.......so I DO make every effort to stay in shape!

You are very much right, Hagopinion. They just make guesses about everyone's INDIVIDUAL needs. And individuals can vary in their needs A LOT, for lots of reasons.

NOT a democrat. But how about this. I make this new pill for everyone, say, pansy petal pills, and I claim these lower cholesterol. You take them thinking they will help, I don't have to prove my statements, I make money, no one gets hurt, great right.

No need for you to get so spastic about it. I would have agreed with your statement about the FDA having to pull medicine after it's been approved, but since you felt the need to use 4 question marks and 5 exclamation marks, I'll just ignore it.

I'm all natural now and am at a healthy weight 5'11" and 145-150. My food choices seem to keep me where I want to be. No carbonated drinks, less sugary foods, eating a good breakfast everyday, etc.

I tried protein shake supplements that I bought from my gym (South Pointe) when I was living in Hagerstown, but I stopped trying them in 2004. I honestly can't say they made any noticeable difference for me. I've actually gained 20+ lbs. in the past 18 months without supplements and I'm DEFINITELY much stronger.

My parents buy their vitamins and all from Vitamin World and the vitamin store at the outlets I believe.

I was tested for that as well. Nope not the case. I am enrolled at the "Y" and I have a trainer, mainly to work on my leg's to buld muscle, but they have me doing some things with my upper body. I have noticed that I'm building a more defined arms and chest, BY NO MEANS BUFF OK, my wife say's I have tape worm. She's going to take me to the vet's she say's. If it's food I eat it Coma, I'm not shy at all to any foods. I hate spicy hot stuff won't eat that. I eat ton's of pasta as well. God left that out of me to be a big person as well as my older brother. I have 1 sister and 2 other brothers that have heavy weight issues. They watch all the time. Guess the 2 of us lucked out.
Jelsey,
My wife hates me for this as well. She say's I'm like that one commercial on TV for this weight loss drug cartoon type. The woman takes and eat's 1 thing and the couch pops up at the end she's on. My wife say's that's us to a T. But the wife is only 142, Still hot looking after 23 years. But she's very active all the time. She complains that she can't loose the baby pouch. She had 2 C sections and has the little pouch. Don't bother me in the least.

Make sure you eat good food; junk food isn't going to help. Lots of pasta is good, you'll need the carbs for high energy workouts. Contrary to belief, carbs don't help you gain weight because they only get stored as fat if you consume too many of them. I'm also not a fan of low-carb diets, but that's another thread altogether. It's good that they have you training your upper body, that's the easiest area of the body to build muscle and add some weight. Just make sure you're going with higher weight and lower reps and the sets should be pretty intense. You need to pack muscle on, not define it. I was in strict weight training regimens from middle school until after college, so I've been through several programs. I'm just now getting back into it after taking a much needed break from it all but I'm more focused on burning fat and muscle definition than bulking up and gaining weight.

Hmm, I wonder how good it is for you to just eat like slim fast, or some nutritional shake, and not eat food at all. That doesn't sound very good for you, but isn't that what you do on slim fast?

I tried that once. It lasted less than a day. My will power is less than adequate. You might fair better. I can't think it's good for you though. Maybe you should stop watching so many David Bowie videos?
Ithlilian
Yes, it definitely can't be good for you, but if it helped me lose weight I'd do it. I bet it wouldn't stay off. David Bowie ew.

Garlic is really popular. It is supposed to be really helpful but the obvious side effects can make it cumbersome. I have never tried it, all I can remember is my multi vitamins and increasing my fruits and veges........Oh Oh, I like tomatoes, may need a supliment after what I have read. laugh.gif
