College stories never get old. Tonight, some of my fraternity pledge brothers will be telling tales out of school. One of my favorites was the time we piled into my two-tone green VW Bug and went up in the mountains around Letterkenny dam, cut down a Christmas tree for the Sig Tau Christmas party, tied it to the top and nearly got busted by a forest ranger.

That's a tame one so please, share away. Just keep it clean.

Tks.

By the way, check out my column about why the bond of fraternity brothers is so tight on this web site and in the Friday, June 6 Herald-Mail.

I remember in college when we would get people so drunk that they would die from it...or make them drink gallons of water, etc....

Oh wait....

I didn't do anything in college but study so I can't help out this topic. I don't think I will be able to read other people's posts on here because I'm disgusted by what college students think is "fun." I really don't like sororities for fraternities. I went to college to get a degree not get drunk and kill brain cells...sigh.

You make a good point.

But not all fraternities and sororities are bad. Not all stories are bad.

These posts can be fun, too.

We have the rest of our lives to be serious. biggrin.gif

I don't feel like I've lived any less by not getting drunk out of my mind in college. I'll still keep the opinion that ALL sororities and fraternities are bad, name one that has never had a drunken college dumb-people party. Sure you have to do community service and all, but so do prisoners. Meh, it's my opinion, and can't be changed smile.gif

Ok I'll add mine

Never mind I forgot I didn't go to college.

In a joint venture with a fraternity, we held a "kidnapping" to raise funds for a national philanthropy. The president of the fraternity and I arrived at the appointed time to kidnap the president of the college at "gun point" from the admin building. The local police happened by as we were exiting the building with the president blindfolded and us packing cap guns. Who in either organization ever thought to tell the local police about an on campus activity?!? We raised $900 which was quite a sum in 1971. and of course,we celebrated our good deed that evening in the usual way. Same cops got called to answer the niose complaint!!!!!!

We had a bake sale.
One sorority had a car wash in bikinis and made double without guns.
At UVA we had two fraternities rent a UHAUL and stuff it with kegs and Frat brothers and tour the womens college circuit. It was in a lot of papers, the accident on the road. Not good.

You win some you loose some. Meaning for every good idea there is a bad one. For every fun and well thought out activity there is a drunken accident waiting to happen.
My kids are in universities but foregong the Greek Life. Nowadays, it may be different.

My kids have school, jobs, bills, and that leaves no time for the Greek thing. Financially, it does not cut it for them. The amount of debt after college, they know to forgo some of the merriment. Just life in 2008 I guess. For some times and choices change.

They do volunteer and do go to an occasional party. They just found no time for the Greek thing. To each his own I guess.

My school didn't allow frats or sororities. I was a member of the science honor society and President of the ACS Student Affiliates Chapter, but neither of those groups did anything wild, or at least not officially. We did sneak out and went cow tipping one night at the annual science honor society meeting at some school in the wilds of Kentucky, and we Chemistry Majors were known to howl at the moon late at night as a study break when preparing for major exams. Not many non-majors ever visited the Chemistry building, and certainly not late at night.

I was not in a sorority so I missed that passage of time. I am told Greek Life builds bonds and connections for life. I have no connection or frame of reference on that. I know many have good stories from high school or college or the military, depending where life took them.

I belonged to Circle K, a Kiwanis sponsored service club on campus. laugh.gif

Not a sorority, do not think it counts. Kind of boring I guess. laugh.gif cool.gif

I was in a math honor society, and it had a greek name, we met once a month and talked about math in a classroom, no parties at all, no hanging out with members outside of the meetings, about 10 people came to the meetings at the most.
