I believe, this will be good for the area. Prior to Rouzerville Commons Opening, the Greater Waynesboro Area was seriously lacking in merchandisers. K-Mart was the only game in town, this forced many residents, to travel to Hagerstown and Chambersburg for many of lifes basics. In today's gas price crisis, I believe another shopping center will give the residents of this fine area more choices. I personally would like to see a Target or Kohls come to the area. One or maybe even two of the out parcels for this project I am really hoping will be for some competition to Applebees.

Wal-Mart is fine, but competition would be good. Most know Wal-Mart sets their prices based on local competition, right now the Wal-Mart in Rouzerville Commons has none.

Just how much has Waynesboro grown? I haven't been there for...geesh...about 6 yrs(?). Are they expanding because of people coming from the fredrick area?

The Greater Waynesboro Area (from Zullinger to Blue Ridge Summit) are experiencing a bit of growth. Not near as much as our bretheren over in Carroll Valley, Fairfield and Gettysburg. It appears, at least for now that the suburbanites are following the US 15 cooridor for their expansion.

Ya'll know I'm living ABOVE Waynesboro, looking down, and I'm amazed at the growth in town, however, the only REAL growth I see is housing. Sure a couple of little shops have moved into empty stores in the downtown area, but the potential for good-paying jobs is still not good. Got a lot of new housing developments, but I have to wonder who is living in them!

I see alot of Washington DC cars in town, hell I've even seen some up on my hill. IMHO, the new housing is for those intrepid travelers who commute up and down the corridor, just like me.

I agree with PhilPhanatic, we need competition in Waynesboro. (FYI...the new WalMart is in Rouzerville, NOT Waynesboro). The WalMart does a really good business, every time I stop in (which is damn near daily) it's full to bursting with fat ladies in sweat pants and skinny, toothless men with tobaccy juice running down their beards and engine grease under their nails. However, there are also women with business suits and a couple metrosexual guys browsing the soy milk selection.

It would be nice to have a Target or some other under-priced big-box store, but for now, I'm just counting my blessings that there's a store near Waynesbuggy that actually still sells TIES!

Yep, ties. Amazing ain't it. Ties...they're not just for grandpa anymore!

When the time came for my oldest to get his senior pix done, I realized he needed a tie. Well, all his old ties were "little boy" ties and last minute tie-shopping was not my idea of a fun Saturday afternoon.

We looked all over Waynesboro and the only place we found ties was the Goodwill.

Yes, my kid had the most important picture of his youth taken with a Goodwill tie. They actually had a pretty nice selection. I bought three that would go with his chosen outfit, and let him pick the one he liked best. The pix turned out great, the kid has a couple "extra" ties, and mom saved some bucks.

When the WalMart opened last year I was quite happy to see that they carried ties too. Not as good a selection as Goodwill, but a selection none the less.

I LOVE casual living, but

that boy looks nice all dressed up, a pleasant (and infrequent) change from his everyday uniform of jeans, hoodies and T-shirts.

I used to love the downtown Waynesboro, walking and shopping. SO many stores went out of business and some are empty, leaves you feeling sad. I hope the downtown can spring back, the architecture and layout makes it a beautiful area to visit and live. Was it Wal mart?, I know that affected the hardware store. Hopefully, with all the new houses will bring a customer base back. I was at The Parlor for lunch last week, old memories. We had a good lunch, very friendly and reasonable.

Do ya think a Downtown Live would jump start it? Bad joke, just goofing. I love Waynesboro and that county over there. Further out you enjoy the park lands. Oh my such a pretty drive and great camping, beautiful surrounding towns. biggrin.gif

Kmart store just sucks. It should be knocked down and replace it with a Target.

Agreed.

And what's up with that closed Jubilee grocery store beside it?

What an eyesore.

However, I hear the new sandwich shop in the Plaza is GREAT, Gracie's Sandwich Shoppe. I've heard that they make an incredible crab chowder on Fridays, supposedly people STAND IN LINE to get it. Gonna have to play hookie one Friday and stop in for some.

My husband's mom and stepfather live in Waynesboro, and they can't say enough good things about Gracie's. I think it's the same Gracie that has Gracie's Place in Funkstown.
Mcgee
It sure is the same as the one in Funkstown.

Gracie is the daughter of the original owner of Hartles sub shop on S. Potomac st. long ago.
The best in the tri-state area. There is also one in the Westend of Htown that was owned by a sister of Gracie. Also a very good place to stop for a sub.
