A friend just asked me about the fireworks at Antietam Battlefield this year -- he wants to bring his kids but didn't know exactly which date and time they were planned for. I looked online but didn't find anything. Do any of you know? Also, any additional information regarding dates and times for other local fireworks shows (in Hagerstown or Williamsport) would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Well I knew they had to have something on their web page already. Too much planning goes into an event like that. THey have to bring in Rangers from other Parks etc. in order to be ready.

Yep - It's always the Saturday
closest to the actual holiday... I live so close, but only make the trip every few years... It's just a messmessmess to get in & out of! But a great time! There is something so great about watching the fireworks while listening to the MD Symphony play with the huge American Flag being raised... Makes you proud to be an American!

You're so right about that! We went one year, and it was really great watching the fireworks and hearing the symphony in such a beautiful setting, but I doubt I'd ever do it again because it's such a cluster getting out of there...I know it took us over 2 hours just to exit the battlefield grounds!

Ha. One year I tried to go to the Battlefield show at the last minute...ended up parking on the side of the road far away while the show stared...tried sneaking into a random field...got chased by some manics driving 4x4's....hid behind a haybail...missed the fireworks and ended up with poison on my leg.
It was awesome.
Anyways...fireworks!

Not sure of the date, but the City produces the best fireworks display I have ever seen, for several years now, at the Fairgrounds. It is really good.

If you don’t wanna get there early for the music and park in the fairgrounds, it is a short walk from nearby on-street parking or the shopping center to the fairgrounds. I always sit within about 100 yards of where they are launching them and man, you feel it in your guts when the boomers go off.

Thanks for the info on the Fairgrounds fireworks, Suns. I've never gone to those before. My friend with the kids was wondering if you would be able to see those fireworks from any hotels in the area (he's taken his family to the display at the Inner Harbor, which of course has hotels right there overlooking it). I was thinking about the Dual Highway hotels and am fairly sure that he wouldn't, er, have the same wonderful viewing experience as in Baltimore.

Can the fairgrounds fireworks even be seen from Dual Highway, you think?

Unless your friend is mobility limited, park at the hotel or shopping center and walk 10 minutes and you are at the fairgrounds and you can sit within 100 yards of ground zero. Throw a blanket on the ground, or bring a chair. I know of nowhere else you can so easily get so close to good fireworks.

Did any of the fireworks actually happen, or were they all canceled due to rain? I know the Williamsport ones didn't happen last night.

The Fairgrounds Fireworks kicked off around 10:30pm. We sat off of Potomac, near a park. Snoopy was right. We have found plenty of little corners in and around town to catch a good view of the show. The Hagerstown show was delayed due to rain. It ended up being a good show. We enjoyed the colorful array of patterns and spiraling lights, and the noisy Kabooms. A nice way to celebrate the Fourth.

Thanks Sun for the information, always good to consider options.
