I heard a rumor of several higher-level folks at WCBOE being fired -- including XXXX. Has anyone seen this in the news?

(This post has been edited. It is inappropriate to name an employee. The person named is not an elected official or the superintendent.)

Before school ended I heard that someone in one of the elementary schools was escorted out by one of the BOE big wigs and has not been heard of since...

Lots of the typical hush hush going on..... do these people honestly believe that the rumor mills are going to be better for them than telling the truth...
Look at all the rumors when the last head of BOE Transportation and one of his workers were "asked to resign"....

Inappropriate according to whom? We talk about lots of people in this forum by name who are not elected officials or the Superintendent of Schools. Nothing disparaging was said about this person. And, as a public liasion, he was fairly high up. We taxpayers pay the salaries of all the BOE people, and I think it is not unreasonable to ask if they are still employed there. I think you are off base – whoever you are.

I'm sure the HM has their best investigative reporters on the story as we speak.

THE WCBOE IS A JOKE, they seem to make a habitat of firing people for no reason

And you know this HOW????

I know that the past Transportation Director and one is minion was asked to resign for very good reasons.
I will not go into them here because it is in the past and over with...
I doubt very much that people in the BOE have been fired for no reason... it would leave them wide open to legal action.

absolutely 100% correct
Snoopy
How? In MD unless you can show racial or age discrimination, etc. or one of the few other illegal reasons you can really fire anyone for any reason, or no reason, and there is nothing the employee can do. Show me how it is otherwise for the WCBOE.
Udmas
The only way I can think of, is if they are a union member.

Right -- have a contract of some type listing each side's rights, that is the only way an employer in MD can be stopped from basically firing you at-will as I listed. I doubt the chief communications officer, or whatever Mr. WK was, was a union guy, but I do not know.

I am amazed about how quiet it is.

Employees can quit "at-will".

I would have to agree with you on this Old Grizz. They must have a legiment reason for firing someone, Union Member or Not. Sounds to me that some of them are upset because they lost their jobs. You can't blame an employer for terminating someone when they have just cause to do so.

In Maryland an employer could simply say, I don't like the color of your shirt today so you're fired.

Happened to be speaking to someone who works at BOE and was told that two upper level people had the hard drives on their computers confiscated and are now on Administrative leave....
Don't know for sure if it is true.... but this is what I was told... The person also did not mention any names ...
BranMatt5and7
We're waiting to hear. It's about time employers take a stand for smut on their computer systems. How sick and our tax dollars paid for this. It makes me wonder what all has disappeared in employee files. Who's covering up what.? I don't work for the board but I would like to know how my dollars are being spent. I think others would as well.

No one said anything about smut on a computer.... I would not be too quick to accuse someone without knowing the facts.....
BranMatt5and7
Let me clarify what I mean by "Smut" I am referring to any type of web sites on a company computer that is not business related to or for the company. Even right down to the HM site or Radio stations, I think that's a waste of money to have those type of things on company systems. I am not referring to Porn sites/ dating services. I don't know what type of things or why these people are off there at the BOE, and I am making refference to any and all company related systems. Not just the BOE. Where I used to work at a while back we had 5 employees terminated for misuse of the computer systems some of them was doing their banking from work, even that is wrong in my opinion. Sorry for the misunderstanding I should have made that very clear. I don't want anyone to think I'm slamming anybody at the BOE. I don't know what is going on there my posting is in general to all company computer systems. Including at First Data. Sending personal emails from their work email is even wrong. But most people do it. It don't make it right.
Snoopy
If your employer doesn't mind you using the computer to access the net and e-mail at lunch or break, why should you care?

There is a growing number of business leaders that no longer follow that old school mentality. Studies have shown that allowing some of these privileges improves employee morale, which increases job satisfaction and production.

And your definition of "smut" is truly ignorant.

Don't jump to the conclusion that the computers contained "smut;" they could be conducting personal business on BOE computers or sending confidential BOE information to friends, etc. Nothing in this thread has been backed up with proof so far; it is all based on gossip. Often where there is smoke, there is fire, but up to this point, I am only curious--not believing all that i've read here.
