So we are thinking about getting crabs for the 4th, anybody recommend a good place or have you heard the going prices this year? And does anybody know if I order them now and the price goes up, am I locked into the the price the day I ordered? Last year we got them from Chic's not bad, but they were the only ones accommodating to us with abut two hours notice, I'm trying to plan ahead this year. LOL

We just ate some last saturday and got them from Gateway. As of last week from Gateway they were $40 for a mix of sm/md, were out of large and $70 for jumbo. There is a truck that sells crabs on virginia ave on the left after you pass Sheetz. Not sure of the prices. If we thought about it we might have stopped there before Gateway since we live so close. Also you can try the guy on the corner of Franklin and I belive Locust downtown.

If anyone ever tried the guy in the truck on Virgina Ave. please provide feedback. Also, if anyone has ever tried the place on Franklin close to locus street. He has a sign $99 a bushel, I am assuming they are females but would like to know for sure.
I hear the crabs at Chics are Great as well as at the Stadium. Jumbo were $65 a dozen at Stadium last week.

My family has been getting hard crabs since forever and there is never a steady, great source. Everywhere is iffy. Big, hardy, meaty ones ONE weekend and watery, puny the next. Sometimes the restaurants keep the good ones to themselves.

Picked up a dozen from the guy on Va. Ave. Although they were tasty, they were very small. $25.00 a dozen.

About 2 weeks ago, my wife and I had a dozen jumbos from The Stadium for $55. That's a little pricey, but it was worth every penny. They were plump.

Stadium's the best when crabs are in season. Chic's by the city park is a very close second, and a little bit cheaper. If you have a couple hours to hang out, the outside bar at the Stadium Grill is a great place for crabs, beer, and fresh air.
