...So, I know I may be a day late & a dollar short (as the saying goes) - but I am wondering... What is the correct way to post a link to a story? Do you copy & paste the entire story? Just insert the link? Or both? I know I am guilty of doing all three & sometimes even a combination of. But, what is preferred? Like, what should I do so that you readers out there don't roll your eyes when you pull up one of my threads??? unsure.gif

Any of you HM veterans out there wanna offer any advise??

Personally, just add the link and let everyone read it for themselves. I don't like the fact that if it is an article of size, then it takes up space at the top of each page of that thread. Just rememeber, K.I.S.S.

I usually don't click on links to stories, but if the story is posted in the message I will read it, even better are summarized articles in the post!

"Newbie" asks... What is K.I.S.S.???

And, after I have cut & pasted a few articles - I noticed that it does take up a lot of space at the top of a thread... But then, you read Ith's post & see that some people just don't click on the link... Guess I just won't get a simple answer, huh?

My personal opinion is if it's a short story go ahead and copy/paste the story along with the link. Or if the story may be taken off the website (as some newspapers do), paste the story.

I've also posted the link and maybe the first paragraph or so of the story, in order to pique a reader's interest.

And I concur with smokechaser, if it's long don't paste it as the first post in the topic. Maybe put it in the second post. BTW, I've looked for the switch to turn off repeating the first post on subsequent pages, but can't find it in the admin control panel.
Udmas
I say post the link with a paragraph or two.

Mod, you're joking, right?

If you're not PM me and I'll tell you where the switch is. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Well, then - cut & paste a short story, or the first paragraph or two along with the link it is, then! Thanks for all your input!

I concur with this.
