Just as I was about to close my laptop for the evening, I came across the above article, a few questions:

1. Why is the Good Reverand Jackson not under arrest, for threatening a Presidential Canidate?

2. Why is this buried in CNN?

3. Why is it Wednseday, and This is just being posted on CNN?

Is it really against the law to say you want to rip someones nuts off???? I honestly don't see what the big deal is. The only thing that amazes me is isn't Jesse a Reverand, is this normal language for a minister?
Snoopy
Gee, your "reverend" doesn't talk like that??? Jackson as a "reverend" is a joke -- like Sharpton.

Because Jaskson said it, and not, for example, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Imusor another white and/or conservative commentator, it’s a very minor story. Had it been one of those guys….woosh, a firestorm and calls for them to lose their job.

Jesse Jackson has always had a habit of making inappropiate comments, even as far back as when Martin Luther King Jr. was preaching. It does not mean that every preacher, or every Democrat, makes those kinds of statements.

Did anyone say every preacher or every Democrat makes these kinds of statements? huh.gif

I've got no problem with a Man of God using that phrase. I bet Jesus wanted to rip the nuts off of the money changers in the Temple.

Personally, if more Men of God used everyday language (not the "f" word though, kinda makes me cringe, and g-d is taking the Lord's name in vain, a big NO NO) and let their true emotion show, I think it would be a good example to non-believers. Some non-belivers think that people of faith are some kind of goody-two-shoes and that turns alot of folks AWAY from religion before they even get a taste of it.

Religious folks are just people. People use interesting language. People get mad. Even "religious" and people of faith get angry.

Personally, I don't particularly care for Jesse, mostly because a "man of God" ought not to go around impregnating women to whom they are not married to.

my own personal brush with the Rev. Jackson came when i was in 8th grade chorus 1977. He was in town speaking and our chorus got invited to sing for him and the audience. First he was an hour late. ("transportation problems")

When the show finally got going we sang our little set then sat in the audience to hear the great man speak. Problem was his speech was sooo slurred you could only make out 2 or 3 words per sentence. People in the audience were actually giggling. Now you can call it jet lag and at the time I wasn't really sure what was going on except the man droned on for close to an hour and a half and the only part i understood was the " I am somebody" part.

Knowing what I know now as an adult I'd say Jesse had a couple of Miller lites before his speech and was tanked! never looked at him as a big "hero" after that.

As for the current flap I have 2 thoughts. First, if that had been Rev. Bob Smith, (white as the driven snow) he would be the most hated man in america today and it would have been worldwide news seconds after he said it.

Second, Poor Obama! this guy can't catch a break! between his pastor and now Jesse he spends more time trying to defend people that are actively sabotaging him than getting the message out. If I were him i would come out and say the the Rev. Jackson speaks for only 1 black man in america and that is himself.

And the "apology" is all over the place now. I had been wondering, exactly what sort of believable explanation could a person give to be forgiven for "cut his nuts off"? I mean, come on. We all saw the clip. He looked like he meant it. He's. not. sorry. If I were a dude and someone said something like that about me (and my nuts),and the audio and video were caught for all to see, they could apologize about it til the end of time but I'd never buy that apology. The casual way he said it, too, you know he says stuff like that all the time. Ugh, he just needs to go away and stay gone.

"It was not a public speech or a declaration," Jackson said, adding that the comments "will not be helpful."

"For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize," he said in a written apology released Wednesday. "My support for Sen. Obama's campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal."

Why did it take so long for this to be common knowledge anyway? Because it wasn't Rush or Imus who said it?
Idiot
Another person apologizes for speaking the truth. What else is new? He speaks down to everyone, it's just that most people are too dumb to know it.

How do you figure Idiot? You have any examples? I'm just curious how it is you came to this conclusion - you and Jesse Jackson anyway. rolleyes.gif

One example is what he said to the group of his elite supporters in San Francisco when he thought he wasn't being recorded.

Why has Mr. Burrs not responded in here? I would think he of all people would have much to say.

You'd like it if preachers cussed, what about if they had 5 divorces, cheated on a wife, did drugs? Those things would make them less goody goody.

If the religion you are following teaches you to be kind to people, you shouldn't cuss, I don't think preachers should. They are to lead by example. I don't want my preacher to be like yo what's up dog...no matter how cool that is. They are to set the example of what following the religion is about. You can look at them and go wow, what a good person, I wish I was like that, etc.

Would you really want those people that choose to not follow a faith because of the way the preacher is as a part of your faith anyway? You want people to WANT to follow your faith, not say "oh, I guess, if I have to, only if the preacher acts like this, only if I don't have to do this." That's not true faith to me, you don't need those people as part of the church.

Ah yes, I knew I could count on you to bring my name up and actually I was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th viewer of this thread when you first posted it last night. I debated on whether to respond in this thread or write it into my column, just need to calm down first because of my thoughts/feelings about J.J. Sr. and A.S. I know you're not an Obama fan so I couldn't help but to wonder what motivated you to ask why Jackson wasn't in jail for your allegation of his crude comments equating to a serious threat that intended to do actual harm. Neither here nor there.

I actually decided to wait to write about this in my column until after all the so-called leaders have had an opportunity to express their so-called disdain for what Jackson said and then in JBurrs fashion, blast all the hypocrits for not taking the same level of exception to Jackson as they did with Don Imus! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if Imus had made a comment remotely close to what Jackson said, and then make an apology, Sharpton's first response would have gone something like this, "...An apology isn't enough...."

Sure, I'm both outraged and disgusted because I feel like Jackson, Wright, as well as the so-called leadership at the national NAACP are all "jealous" of Obama's progress and secretly want him to fail. Sure I've got plenty of outrage however on this one I need to calm down and temper how I express that outrage.
PhilPhanatic
Thank you Sir, for you insightful comments.

I can not wait for your column.

The more that comes out about this, the angrier I become. I understand that Obama has to be politically correct, but what Jackson said (the little piece that was aired) are clear fighting words if I've ever seen it. I mean think about it from a man's perspective, why did he have to go for the family jewels? He could have said he felt like kicking Obama's butt or punching him in the eye, but to rip his family jewels off is just downright wrong!

Maybe it's better if I don't touch this. The right words that would actually get printed in the HM just aren't formulating in my head in an appropriate fashion. How'd Jackson like it if I caught a plane to Chicago and went down on State St. with a bull horn talking about wanting to rip his family jewels off.

Forget about politics, forget about all the stupid things anyone has ever said (i.e. Imus, the Grease Man, Jimmy the Greek, etc) and look at this from merely a males perspective, what guy says stuff like that about another guy?

Ok, now I'm done venting maybe I will be able to think about a more politically correct approach for an editorial. biggrin.gif

I thought of another one. Responding about someone's statement that you are very likable by saying "she's likable enough".

That was also part of what JJ said, the quote that Obama talks down to black people. I didn't say that in that story posted, but I just skimmed it. It was more than him just talking about cutting off nuts.
Udmas
Oh well, he talks down to everyone.

SNOB.
Ithlilian
That's true, why do we have to isolate black people if Obama talks down to everyone?

I think someone said that most politicians are elitists, I bet you don't think GW Bush is an elitist lol
Udmas
Of course not, I reserve the elitist title for liberals.
