If you think the Democrats are dealing honestly when vilifying heath care insurance providers and their supposed "obscene profits" in order to justify their health care proposals, check out yesterday's AP story - "FACT CHECK: Health insurer profits not so fat". Nancy Pelosi has stated; "I'm very pleased that (Democratic leaders) will be talking, too, about the immoral profits being made by the insurance industry and how those profits have increased in the Bush years" and she welcomed the attention being drawn to insurers' "obscene profits." As usual, the reality behind the Democrats' rhetoric is quite a different story. The AP article details part of that story and is well worth reading.

It isn't just or primarily insurance companies. It's the drug companies, hospitals, etc. Did you ever look at a detailed bill after a stay in the hospital? They charged me $6 for a pill I take that costs 50 cents. And the drug companies are rewarding doctors for prescribing their newest pills with big trips, kickbacks, etc.

You're right. And they don't just do it when private insurance is involved - they play the same over-charging game when Medicare is the provider. Why? They get paid the money! If someone was willing to pay you $1 dollar for every penny you had to sell, what would you charge him? Insurers are paying those exorbitant bills and passing along the costs as higher premiums and/or higher taxes for everyone in order to cover the half-trillion dollar/year Medicare fiasco.
