There are two dead calves in the Antrim township area laying alongside the road. The humane society and the state police refuse to do anything about them unless the land owner calls in. But they are going to start to decompose and leach into the surrending areas water. Not something I really want to take a shower in. Someone needs to remove the bodies. The poor things look like they were dumped in the snow - they have a cable tied around their necks looking like they were abused. And no one will do a thing.

Have you called the local newspaper? Or how about nbc25? Maybe they might be interested by the "cables around the neck" part of the story. Poor things.They may not even belong to whom ever the property belongs to. Some body might've dumped the poor things there. As for health code stuff I'd get on the health dept.'s butt.

Maby the farmer put them there so the bonemill could pick them up The ice and snow might be holding up the company from driving back the farm lane. I`m sure they wasn`t just dumpted off for no reason. As for the cable. How would get them there? They are not light weights. JMO.

Called the papers - Never thought bout nbc - as far as moving them... They're calves - weigh less than a medium sized dogs. Very very easy to move them. This looks like clothesline cable or cable you tie a dog out with and it's very tight around the calf's neck. the poor baby's eyes are bulging - I doubt that the farmer place him there. This is a local road often used by other people for dumping unwanted thing and is clean and dry. My biggest problem is I've called everyone and they all want to "pass the buck" onto the next group. I'm pretty sure that they don't belong to the land owner. All cows out this way are black and white and these two are brown.

maybe the City of Hagerstown could pick them up and charge the property owner several hundred dollars?

Someone should come pick them up - I doubt that Hagerstown will, It's in Pa.

It was a joke based on all of the debating over Hagerstown clearing resident's sidewalks of snow/ice then charging a couple hundred bucks.

Why have animal control if they won't do their job like picking up DEAD animals.

It is not the job of Animal Control to pick up the dead bodies of animals. The highway department or roads department does that if the animal is on a public right of way. If the bodies are on private property then the landowner must have a reason for having them there. As stated before he is probably waiting for the salvage company to pick them up.

Poor baby cows. [where's the sobbing icon at?] I'm afraid I don't have any advice that hasn't already been given. Let us know how it turns out.

Then why do we have animal control? If a dead deer wanders on my property, and I didn't want it to come, shouldn't they remove it for me. Same thing with the cows.

Hey, WVU-M:
How is a dead deer going to wander onto your property?
<I know what you meant>

It took me a while to realize what you meant! I feel extremely stupid right now.

I had to read that twice also! I thought that maybe that the deer wandered on to his property and had a heart attack. I think that in most counties that Animal Control responds to complaints of rabid animals or those causing a nuisance. They are not equipped or dont want to deal with dead ones.
