I dunno...I don't think they are anymore dangous that cell phones...

Is it illegal to own a cell if you are under 18?

Well you can't sign a contract when you're under eighteen, so maybe it is. I don't see why Maryland needs to waste money on legislating tanning beds, it's just like getting a regular tan.

There's obviously an issue this is trying to address, but I don't see why there needs to be a LAW, and the associated bureaucracy for its enforcement.

Sure, the tanning salons ought properly warn their customers and parents should exercise their responsiblity for their kids. But why do we need a law? Shame on us all if we need Big Brother to force us to use a little common sense.

I vote Republican because the party is SUPPOSED to be against overregulation and expanding the government. IMO, Senator Munson neds to "get with the program" or he's out of there after the next election!

WVU it may be just like getting a "regular" tan but there are THINGS on those beds from other people! blink.gif UCK! And I'm sorry but, a swipe with a rag after a quick spray from some bottle ain't gonna cut for me! unsure.gif I havn't read the article but I don't understand why a CHILD would be using a tanning bed?. I think there should be some kind of more enforcement in the health aspects. I try my best NOT to get that much Sun! tongue.gif I never did understand the thinking behind the bed thing. rolleyes.gif

It's the cool thing now for high school girls now, so in the winter they can look tan.

I used to tan when I was in college, but I'm so fair I could only stay in 7 or 8 minutes. I had the 7:30 am appt and it was a great way to start the day in the dreary days of winter. Now, I ask myself "What was I thinking?". Too expensive and too unhealthy. Regulate it though? Nah, not needed.

You can say that again. And again and again on many other varied topics of concern, if you ask me.

I think a lot of people don't realize the dangers in tanning. It is really, very bad for you and your skin. I think this might be the reasoning behind a law regulating the use for children. This link is a very good story that addresses this topic:

http://www.aad.org/PressReleases/indoor.html

Specifically, if you don't read the article, here is a snippit taken from the article:

"Dermatologists are treating more and more fatal skin lesions in remarkably young patients with the common denominator of overexposure to the sun before the age of 18 when their skin cells are especially vulnerable to injury from UV radiation."

I find this law comparable to setting an age restriction to buy cigarettes. Everyone knows that cigarettes (like tanning beds) can increase your chance of getting cancer. However, once your 18, you have to make the choice of whether or not smoking, or tanning, is worth it.

On a side note - if you don't like Big Brother, I wouldn't vote republican. A good example would be the patriot act, which democrats are fighting very hard to lesson the intrusiveness. wink.gif
