I saw this in the paper a few days ago, and I must admit it is one of my pet peeves. Why do people insist on squeezing 2 lanes of traffic on Locust and other similar streets? There are no lines on the pavement indicating 2 lanes. I try to drive right down the middle, but even at that my little car isn't much of a deterrent to those set on passing me. dry.gif Maybe I will have to drive my big truck! laugh.gif So am I the only one who finds this annoying? When I first moved here I thought maybe I was in the wrong, especially when I got dirty looks from all the people trying to get around me.

Well, the question I have is: why did they hang two traffic lights on a one lane street? All of the streets mentioned have two lights at each intersection which would indicate two lanes.

It is annoying. I do not like the fact that people try to make a one lane street a two lane street.

They should take down the extra lights and use them at intersections that need new lights.

When I'm on Locust I usally drive a little left of center cuz I will turning left. And the last couple of times everybody stayed in one row.I really don't get too many people tailgatin' or doing stupid things behind or beside me.I guess it's the sticker in the back window "MEAN PEOPLE KICK ASS". biggrin.gif

Things that I find annoying are:

People passing you going to work...They must be firemen cuz I'm in no hurry to get to work wink.gif

Trucks with their tailgates down rolleyes.gif

ricers (cars not motorcycles)dry.gif

HD with straight pipes=WT

edit:will add more when they come to me...

You need to pull a Kramer and paint some lines down it then. biggrin.gif

I have a beef with all sorts of folks speeding past my house. It's not a busy street AT ALL. It's just that some idiots go flying past with NO respect for us nor our children.

My daughter's old enough that she doesn't play in the street much, but there are plenty of little ones on our street who do, and some of us adults stand out there chatting with one another from time to time. One day somebody's going to be seriously injured or killed!

ANYWAY, I know where I can buy speed bumps for a few hundred bucks each - so one of these days maybe I'LL "pull a Kramer"!

Sounds like a good idea...but some 16 year old in his riced out neon will probably hit it and wreck and kill himself then his WT family will sue you.

Just toss some 2X4's out in the street and save a couple of hundred $.

Wasn't there an article in the paper a few weeks ago
about this very problem ??

What is a "riced out neon"? Is it when the kids take a cheap car and fix it all up a la "The Fast and the Furious"?

I believe there was. If I remember correctly, it stated that if the street was not lined it is a one lane street.

Yep! They're a big hit with the under-21 crowd. And just about nobody else.

Fortunately we don't have any of them in the neighborhood. Our big problem is soccer moms with their minds on everything but their driving. Well, that and the occasional Billie-Bob in his pick-em-up truck.

Locust St. has always been a 2 lane street. So has East Ave. And Cannon Ave.And some others.
The only way you're going to get jack-a**es to slow down is to get the city police to sit there some times. It seems to be working on W. Franklin.
One of MY pet-peeves is Queen St. in Martinsburg! The fact that you can't make a left turn anywhere on that street is absolutely frustrating!!!!!!!!!! mad.gif

Not so for Locust St. The article was in the paper on April 20th. According to Sgt. Dave Long of the Hagerstown Police Dept, and I quote "If it's two lanes there's gonna be a dividing line down the middle." The city engineer mentioned Prospect, Summit/Jonathan, Mulberry and Locust as one lane streets. I'm not sure about East Ave., but I believe it's a two way street.
Petrouchka
If it is a two lane street, then there should be a dividing line in the center AND enough room for two cars to drive side-by-side without losing your side mirrors to the parked cars on said street.

Sorry Heather, get in line. They are one-lane streets according to the city rolleyes.gif

Nope, I'm afraid I'll not. tongue.gif

No dividing line=one lane?

So on all of those back country roads that don't have a dividing line, they're all really one-way roads?

Alrighty! So all of you clowns driving towards me need to pull off on the shoulder and get out of my way!

They're supposed to be correcting this problem soon.

As long as I can remember, (hee hee!) Locust street was always two lanes, but you had to kinda yield when you ran out of room because of parked cars. The newcomers to Hagerstown weren't used to our skinny streets, so the idea of two lanes never was accepted by them which is understandable.

The police would always drive along side of you on these streets, so I know it was always legal and that was the way it always was.

Messed up, ain't it....... smile.gif
