An adult themed store (sex shop) wants to open in Bunker Hill, W Va, and according to some locals it's too close to Bunker Hill Elementary School, and should be banned. What are your opinions? (Here's the story
http://www.journal-news.net/news/story/057...t_050704_n.asp) IMO, I think the store should not be able to open in Bunker Hill, especially if it's going to be near the school. I also agree with this Talbott guy that Berkeley County needs to take control of the situation, it seems like we have more strip clubs/adult shops in Berkeley County than the whole state of West Virginia. (Yossarian alluded to this in another post). I would even say that we've got more here in Berkeley County than all of Washington County and Frederick County, Va combined!

How do you think all those school kids got here.....test tubes..
Hagerstown has one of those shops on the dual highway and I've never seen a bunch of shady people hanging around outside of it..

Yeah, but do you need latex to have a kid. Plus, why does it need to be near a school. Last thing I would want to explain to a Kindergartener is what a dildo is.

I have to agree that the location leaves MUCH to be desired. It appears that there are no zoning laws in existance and even if one was passed, it would be hard to move this shop because the took affect after the property was purchased and remodeled. I stand neutral on the shop itself. To each his own. I would definitely have an issue if it was being located across from my child's school. My best suggestion would be have a bunch of people rally the funds to buy the idiots out. Or, pass the zoning ordinance, torch the place, then use the law to prevent them from rebuilding. Not exactly legal, but effective! LOL!

I don't care either, but to tell you the truth I don't want one in my neighborhood or near any school. Plus, has anybody on these forms been to Bunker Hill, it's not NYC nor is it even Hagerstown, so a sex shop on Dual Highway is a little different from one in Bunker Hill.

Folks,
Having supervised sex offenders for a fair amount of time, my view is that a "sex shop" near any school serving minor children is NOT a good idea. I am not against these businesses-per se-but I believe they should be located in areas that are NOT near any activity or place that attracts children. Most of the customers are probably harmless, but there is no sense in taking a chance.

There are actually two adult stores on dual highway, The Locked Door and Big Al's. You'd be shocked to know that half of Big Al's is actually geared toward child-like toys. When you walk through the front entrance, there are stuffed animals, key chains, cartoon and Disney stuff. There is a tall partition separating half the store. Around the partition is the adult part of the store. I have no idea why it is set up that way. I guess the idea was to give the kids something to look at while you and the spouse shop for .... whatever. Weird, eh?

I thought Big Al's closed.

But like I said Hagerstown is a he** of a lot bigger than Bunker Hill, and as far as I know aren't near any schools.
