I will be needing to get some new carpeting installed soon. Maybe some vinyl, too, but mostly carpet.

I'd appreciate hearing from those who have been there, done that, on what carpet stores are good and which aren't so good with respect to prices and selection as well as the quality of the installation job. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Burkholder's on Pennsylvania Ave in Hagerstown has always had a good reputation. They put the stuff in my builder's spec home before I bought it. There were some minor flaws in workmanship, but I'm sure they would do an excellent job for a privately contracted job. They're been around forever so I'm sure they'll be there after the sale.

I've also had Sear's carpet installed and it was excellent, although I think it's the luck of the draw as to who they sub-contract the work out to.

I used Carpet Gallery (South End SC on Maryland Av.) and their service was excellent. They even made my extra carpet into a bunch of floor mats/runners at no charge. I thought they were expensive, so when I needed a room done last fall, I checked elsewhere and ended up using U.S. Carpet Mart (on the Dual Hy.). I wasn't impressed and it turned out to be expensive also.

So, the moral of this post is that carpet is expensive everywhere and I recommend Carpet Gallery. smile.gif

I also use Carpet Gallery. They do all of my work in my apartments and my home.
They put in carpet and a Maningtin floor for me. The workmanship was very good. If you have any problems they come right out and fix it. I`ve had no problems with them.

If you're in PA, Locke's Flooring; 814/259-3096. He may do Hagerstown also, I'm not sure. One guy, one installer, very reasonable prices. I don't know if he'll bring samples to you, we've always gone to his store (located where Fulton, Franklin, & Huntingdon counties join), but we've always been quite pleased with his carpet and vinyl installations.

Oooh, Innerspace. I like their work. They did our tile (beautiful) and carpet when we built our house 3 years ago. Our builder uses them for all his houses, but if I had to do it on my own, I probably wouldn't go there. I thought they were pretty pricey, but since I had no choice, I didn't shop around. They priced out our basement design, but we decided to do it ourselves. It's STILL a work in progress, but that's what happens when you have a tight budget!

For future reference today's Journal said it's readers voted Carpet World of Martinsburg and Tradewinds Flooring in Charles Town as the best carpet stores.

We just did our basement with carpeting from
The Red Barron in Williamsport, MD...since we're
about to move, we asked for very inexpensive
carpet and got some on sale for only .96/sq.ft.
They have a list of local installers that you have
to make arrangements with yourself, but they
will pick up the carpet after you order it and
bring it to your house to install...the two young
men that did ours worked out great.

OOOPS! Wrong # for Locke's Flooring. Should be 814/ 259-3736 - Sorry!

It's like buying a car...don't pay what price they have it marked. They have about 10 different prices for flooring depending who you are...haggle. wink.gif
