July 10, 2004 at Summit Point Raceway

I know some people do not even know this place exists, but I believe Summit Point Raceway in WV is one of the most entertaining kept secrets in the area.

HyperFest 2004 is a unique event featuring modern vehicles doing things some may have never imagined such as drifting, exhibition and competitive racing, a "rice rice challenge," roll over contest, and the usual car show and spectating. New for 2004 is bikini jousting which is an alternative to the typically entertaining bikini contests.

I went pessimistically in 2001 for the first time, and I was delightfully surprised. This event may not be for those who detest noise, heat, and walking, but I found it very enjoyable.

You can ride along in an old police car as driving instructors drive around the track at high speeds or you can test out your own car on the track. I just thought I'd add this to the events because I have had so much fun the last few years I've gone. If you want to find out more, I think the websites to check out are www.hyper-fest.com and www.nasaracing.net.

I so wanted to go this year but I'll be on vacation in NC that weekend....

And, I live just 3 miles from the track now...I could have ridden my bicycle there !!!

Saturday Saturday Saturday!

It's today! Once my stepson gets out of bed we'll be on our way!

P.S. We had a blast! Having nothing but daughters from my first marriage, I had never been able to get them to go for any of these typical male-interest events. But my new 20-yr old stepson who had never been to a race of any kind, and I went and really really enjoyed it. We both went ona ride-along in one of those old police cruisers and that was moderately entertaining. But the racing was the best. We'll definitely be back to Summit Point, hopefully many times. Maybe even take my Camaro out for an HPDE or two.

We even managed to get my 16-yr old daughter to join us, and even she had a lot of fun, though she did say she was getting tired of it all after about 7 hours.

Biggins - were you there? Did you happen to find out why they black-flagged the Honda Challenge/Porsche 944 race? It was going great until that point!

It was definitely a good time, and I highly recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest in cars or auto racing!

I was definitely there; however, I had to cut out at 2pm because my friend's wedding was at 4 in Hagerstown. I planned to get there Friday night and camp until Sunday (for racing on Sun.), but I had that wedding. The event was much bigger and more entertaining this year than the previous two, but I wish it were still a 2-day event (HyperFest both days).

I planned on doing the HyperDrive on the smaller circuit with my Civic, but I showed up too late. They didn't have it on Sunday either. I had some friends who did that with their WRXs and a 944, but I didn't get the chance.

I'm glad that they are focusing the event more on driving than catering to a car show. I've done the car show only MANY times, but it gets boring to me. Anyways, the set-up this year was 10 times better than last because you didn't even have to walk to all different places to see everything.

I did not get to see the Honda Challenge/944 Cup race, so I have no idea what may have happened. Cars seem to run off turn 1 frequently and make a mess. I spun on turn 3 a couple years ago when I took my Civic out, but that was mainly due to rain and bad tires. Light drizzles cause major problems if they have the wrong tires. It must have been something major to black flag it however.

Next summer I'm planning to build an old Merkur XR4ti into a drift/track car for a reasonable dollar since my Civic isn't worth trying to race

Definitely let us know. I'd be glad to cheer you on!

I doubt I'll take my 2001 Camaro out for a HPDE, but maybe do the HyperDrive thing next year. It's an automatic, and only a V-6 (though it makes more hp and torque than some of the old V-8s). It has the Y87 perf package and can accelerate pretty good, and handling is great. But HPDE would be a waste of time - I'd be laughed off the track and bore the instructor to death, what with the auto tranny.

It would definitely be cool if it were a 2-day event. Better yet if they could get more vendors to come.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS. We did indeed have a great time!
