Toyota will be competing in the Truck Series next year with their Tundra pickup truck and they should be in Winston Cup in about 3 or 4 years. They skirted the rules of no foreign auto makers in NASCAR because the truck is built in America.
Do you think that foreign auto makers should be allowed to compete in NASCAR even if they built a vehicle in America?

We've had this discussion on NASCAR boards all over
the Internet...there's no such thing as an 'American'
car anymore....it may be assembled in the US, but
the majority of parts are foreign, or at least what
they're made of is...foreign steel, foreign rubber,
foreign oil...Ford owns part of Mazda, GM owns part
of Kia, then of course there's Daimler/Chrysler...
automobile manfacturing is a global operation...
Besides, Toyota Celicas run in the NASCAR Goody's
Dash Series, and quite successfully, too. And just
watch what happens when Toyota does reach Winston
Cup...their 10 year Indycar program was focused
on one thing.....winning the Indy 500....this year, not
only did they win, they had 4 out of the top 5 and 7
out of the top 10 engines...they will kick tail at Daytona!!!

I totally agree with you that American cars are built and have pieces from all over the world. Ford and GM are both based in America so they are considered American auto makers, Chrysler was also but I guess it's kind of sketchy now that they are owned by Daimler. Some people are die hard American car lovers and they would think that it was awful that a foreign car maker was trying to invade Winston Cup.
I think Toyota will work their butts off to be successful and it will make all the other automakers to work that much harder to make their race programs more successful. So I think it's a good idea that Toyota is coming into NASCAR but I am sure that there are some other people that would disagree with me and hopefully they will make some good points in this Forum.
