Just wondering... but does every event in Hagerstown have to have the same type of music? It's always blues or country. This just gives me another reason why I drive an hour or more in order to listen to imo "good" live music and even radio stations (not saying blues is bad, but I am saying country is horrible)...

Also, why are they made to appeal only to people over the age of 25 or so?

That is nice. I've gone a couple times with my grandparents.

But... I was thinking of stuff more 21st century

I kinda agree music-wise. The MD Theatre used to have rock bands come in, but now it is country, classical, or super-soft stuff only. I wrote to them appealing (nicely) for some rock music again. I was told the leadership there is very closed-minded and not to expect an answer. I got none. sad.gif

I attended the MD Theatre around Christmas Time. I called to make reservations/ buy tickets and found the people there to be slightly on the rude side. I wasn't familiar with the seat layout and was asking questions about the best seats, etc. The woman that took my order, was very brusque and not at all helpful. A little friendliness and courteous answers to my questions would have been appreciated.

It's almost like they didn't care whether or not I bought a ticket. As it turned out, the performance I attended was less than 50% sold.

Here's a quote from the MD Theatre web site:

"The marvelous acoustics are only surpassed by the wonderful ambiance of The Theatre. The Theatre provides comfortable seating for 1300 at performances of country artists, comedians, orchestra concerts, children's shows, musicians, recitals, stage shows, and others."

So, I guess unless "rock" music falls under the "others" category, rock and roll music is no longer welcome there, while country and orchestra music is. I'd like to hear their reasoning for excluding a whole genre of music. Maybe someone else will have better luck if they ask.

Seems to me The Theatre receives some public funding and isn't overflowing with money, so why not offer a better variety?

They probably don't want the "riff-raff" that goes along with rock and roll. <sarcasm>

I was Kixx at the MD Theatre many moons ago.

Do they still have concerts over near Inwood in the big field (can't remember what is was called)?

Shiley Acres is what you're thinking of and Lalapalooza!! I don't think they still have it there. Figures. wink.gif Lord and Lady forbid that people around this area have any kind of choices! tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Right on, I do not think they've had it there since at least 1999... Merriweather in Columbia, Nissan in Bristow VA, Chameleon in Lancaster, Hershey, and any show in Baltimore and DC are the closest shows to which I find worth going.

side note: Lollapalooza was cancelled this year due to terribly low ticket sales and what many believed was a poor choice in a headlining band- Morrissey.

Shiley Acres, that's it! Last I saw there was Winger.
