I have learned that I am still horrible with algebra after all these years and because of that, I have to take Pre-Algebra
and Basic Algebra classes at Shepherd.

Heather,
Hang in there, girl, no one is good at everything and algebra is a toughie for many folks. To a large degree it is like many things --use it or lose it. What degree you goin after?
Yoss,
Either the equation you posted is unsolvable or I forgot lots of algebra, too! It could easily be the latter.

I learned that not all blondes are airheads
That not all airheads are blondes
That the correct spelling of where I live is Tilghmanton
That most people in this town can't have fun at a city event unless alcohol is involved
And that way to many lives were lost this week for stupid reasons.

I don't know yet. I want to experiment with different classes. I've always gravitated toward literature, writing and English classes though. We'll see.

Speaking of Spinal Surgery... I HIGHLY recommend Dr Aldrich at UMD Hospital in B'More. He practices in Germany, South Africa and the US. You don’t want someone in H'town digging in your spine...

With all due respect, are you an expert on the capabilities of all of the spinal surgeons in H-town?
Dr. Caruso in H-town is an excellent neurosurgeon.

When my Mom had to have two big colon polyps removed the doctor at City Hospital told her to either go to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore or WVU Medical Center in Morgantown. He also said for any type of surgery go to those two places, and never go to Hagerstown or Martinsburg.

That means assumign there are no good surgeons in any discipline at H-town or M-burg and only good surgeons at the other places, which is waaaay too simplistic of an attitude for me. Yes, Hopkins has a great reputation world-wide, but too many doctors themselves get treated or have family members treated around here for me to believe there are no good surgeons here. Plus personal/family experience tells me that is not true.

I am sure there are some fine surgeons in H'town... But IMO, I would you rather have a spine specialist (that has the best equipment and training available) that performs multiple spinal surgeries daily, than visit a general neurosurgeon that may operate on the spine once a week. Why not go to the best source available for something important like the spine, brain or heart?

Mike,
You are assuming that the local guy only does one such operation a week, etc. Maybe some local surgeons actually do the surgeries more often than some of the big dogs in DC who might spend lots of time on panels, boards, fund-raising, etc. Maybe their outcomes are better.
I agree, if my life/health are on the line, I want the best care I can get, but there are more considerations than just "is the hospital large and/or famous"?. I've got no dog in this hunt in that I don't have any doctors in the family, etc. in case you're wondering, but any one of us or our family members may need care at any time, (perhaps emergency care) and to leave people with the feeling that their care will be sub-standard just because it is being done in H-town vs. DC or Baltimore is, IMO, wrong.
It would be nice to have a national, free, database with objective and accurate ratings for hospitals, docs, and surgeons but as far as I know no such system exists. Problems include some of the best docs getting bad ratings simply because they are the only ones who will even try to work on some gravely ill patients, etc.

Snoopy, FYI there are tons of websites that purportedly rate/rank physicians. As with any internet databases, you may want to weigh each site's veracity.
Just google "physician ratings", "hospital ratings" or "hospital rankings", etc. Personally, I don't have a whole lot of faith in Washington County Hospital in general. There are Excellent physicians in the area, but in my very humble opinion the care in general at WCH leaves a lot to be desired. I've known at least 2 people under care there that died under what I consider to be suspicious circumstances.

Yoss,
Maybe this discussion deserves it's own thread? As a moderator, I'll let you decide if it should be broken off and given it's own thread. Maybe it'd be nice to get some additional input from folks who have been treated there and at other places, but I doubt we'll find anything scientific.

You can add my mom to that list of those who died under suspicious circumstances. And City Hospital is a joke. Everyone that I know who lives in Martinsburg travels with Winchester for medical care.

One reason for that is that medical malpractice insurance in West Virginia is among the highest in the nation, so City can't attract the creme de la creme of doctors.

I`ve had 3 spinal taps and one back operation. I`m doing just fine with it now.
The doctors i had were very good ones. Doctor Abdula did mine and he also
was a sergin in Hopkins at the same time. So alot of doctors here also do work in other hospitals. Picking on WCH. dosen`t proove anythng.
